Ronald "Scotty" Dawkins, age 75, of Leland, Mich., died on Oct. 23, 2016. At the time of death, he was suffering from dementia. Scotty was born in Scotland and moved with his family, Harry and Ellen Dawkins, to Detroit, Mich., in 1952. He served in the U.S. Air Force and spent many years working for American Motors Corporation. When he left AMC, he was their Service Manager in Europe. Scotty trained members of Saudia Arabia's King Fahlid's National Guard. He then returned to Michigan ,and became a supervisor of investigators with the newly formed Bureau of Automotive Regulation. He met his wife, Kathryn Kik, there and they married in November 1978. Scotty was offered a job with the Alaskan Attorney Generals Consumers Protection Office and moved his family to Anchorage, Alaska, in 1982. While in Alaska, Scotty handled consumer protection cases throughout the entire state. He established a working relationship with the various news agencies, often appearing on television and radio. While in that position, he was instrumental in the passage of the Lemon Law. The Alaska State Court considered him an expert on automotive related cases and he testified many times on those matters. Scotty is survived by his wife, Kathryn; children, Ian Dawkins, Kristina Dawkins (Daniel) and Mary Dawkins; and grandchildren, Desmond and Raegan. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Christine. A Celebration of Life will be held on Nov. 12, 2016, at Tuckers of Northport. If wanted, donations may be made to an animal shelter of your choice. Please visit Scotty's personal page of memories at www.oakgrovefh.com.

Dear Kathy, A voice from the past writing to express my sorrow to learn of Scotty's death. You will remember, I think, that we had several years of work together at Consumer Protection in Anchorage. I considered him a friend and a co-worker that I had a lot of admiration for. While we did not stay in touch, I always knew that in the course of a single phone call we would reconnect in a heartbeat. I hope that you are surrounded by good friends and loving family. It was particularly distressing to know that his last months were not easy and, no doubt, very difficult for you and other caregivers. I hope you are able to sleep and, one day soon, laugh at something silly. Kind regards, Barbara Hendricksen PS Thank you for publishing in the Alaska paper. I will reach out to Connie Sipe and attach a copy for her as well.
