Worked with Sal at the Rescue Coordination Center in the late 90s. He was a ray of sunshine. Definitely an optimist. Sorry to lose such a young, happy man!

Sal was one of the finest airmen I had a pleasure to serve with. His work with the Rescue Coordination Center, and his volunteer efforts in our community, were as impressive as they were sincerely from his very being. On the job, he was one of the most thoughtful, insightful, and kindly. Again, and again, during 'missions' his thorough work contributed to saving numerous Alaskan lives. A true credit to his family, our Alaska Air National Guard, our Air Force team, our State and community - and an even greater loss on his own homefront. He has given so much to so many Alaskans; I deeply pray and sincerely hope that your family, over time, become recipients of such attention and support from our community. Sal was a real hero - selfless and devoted in my book (though he'd not describe himself that way). Blessings to you now and in the coming days.

As member of USAF rescue, the ripples of Sam's loss are very wide. He was a part of a team that touched and saved the lives countless people. The world is definitely a better place because of his contributions. He upheld our motto, "these things we do, that others may live". A honored veteran for all, and a true hero for many.

I'm so sorry for the sudden loss of Sal. He was such a special man who truly loved his family and country. When you came into his life, you brought him great happiness and joy.
