Uncle Tom will be forever engrained in me. He seemed like that guy, if you met him, you would always remember. His wild energetic spirit was destined to be up discovering the untapped last frontier - Wild Alaska. His uniqueness was his beauty. Funny story - when my first son Luke was born, swollen face and all, I said joyfully he looks like my joyful Uncle Tom. Squinty eyes, big blushed check bones. I guess that is the Shoemake in him! I'm really proud of that.

This was a note that I shared with my cousin Zack upon hearing the sad news in June.

I wanted to let you know how much I looked up to your dad. As a kid he seemed like a mythical grizzly man, who would teach me wrestling moves and would always be so playful with my brothers and I. He was larger than life, and I will always remember his enormous smile and laugh. What I'd give to get another bear hug from him. One of the greats. I really regret never making it up to AK to see the world that meant so much to him.

Thomas was always a great brother! With all the jokes and bantering as bros and sis do.
Always known as "bossy sis" or "Shoemake's sister". We never lost touch or our love & care for each other. He always had a great spirit. "In all things God works for the good of those who love him" Romans 8:28

I was so sorry to hear of Tom's passing. While I had not seen him since his graduation in 1969, I remember him as a great athlete and teammate, and an extremely intense competitor. It appears that he carried those traits throughout his life. May he rest in eternal peace.

My sincerest condolences to the family. Tom and I were on the MAHS wrestling team and in my final summer there became the best of friends. After returning to the US, I tried several times to establish contact with him, but was never succeeded. I was just in Alaska in 2015, spent a week in Anchorage and a whole month on the Kenai Penninsula. I am sorry to have missed the opportunity to reconnect with someone that I knew as early as my late teens, would likely become a very fine man.

My sincerest condolences. I went to school with Tom in Munich and he was on the wrestling team with my brother. He was such a nice guy and really funny. He always made me laugh.
