Your family continues to be in our thoughts and prayers as you adjust to your new norm. Jim was well-loved and will be missed by us, as well as the rest of his classmates from the Appalachian High School Class of 1952.

My mother (her maiden name was Mary Jane Shore) went to school with your dad and his sister when they were in elementary school. I wish I had more details about it, I mainly recall my mama telling us, after your dad was elected as governor, that she'd gone to school with him. I remember her talking about them all walking to school together. It really made me proud that MY mama went to school with and knew our governor! Sadly, my mama passed away 8 years ago this June 28th.

I happened to be home at lunch today and was able to watch most of your dad's service. What a wonderful, godly man of integrity - loved and respected by so many people. I teared up at your story about his promise that you'd move back to Boone after his term as governor was up, and at the singing of "It Is Well With My Soul" (this was a hymn that my mama requested at her own funeral), and at the folding/presentation of the flag (which brought back memories of my daddy's funeral and the American flag being folded/presented to my mama in April 1983 - he was a Navy veteran).

I'm sure you and your family will miss your dad tremendously - and how precious that he was reunited with his wife on their 52 Anniversary - but you know where he now resides, and praise God, we all have the promise of moving there too one day because of our Lord & Savior Jesus Christ. God bless you and comfort you as only He can.

Through my cousin, Janice Byerly Whitaker, my sister Cindy and I were afforded opportunities to work as Pages with the House of Representatives during your father's term. It was a great experience and meeting your father was a great honor. May your memories keep you warm and make you smile. Dawn M Mabe High Point

Ginny, I had the wonderful opportunity to work in your Dad's office when he was Governor. He was a warm and gentle man. He knew when to work and he did an outstanding job as our Governor. Mike and I will always remember what a great friend he was as well. You are in my prayers.

Ginny, I worked in your Dad's office when he was Governor of our State. He was one of a kind and I say that with much love. He knew when to work and when to play. He was an outstanding boss. I was and am proud to say I knew him and even had the wonderful opportunity to work with him. Mike and I were so thrilled to be a part of that wonderful era. You had a wonderful dad and mom Ginny. You are in my prayers.

I remember Governor Holshouser with a smile when I think of his "authentic personality." He was a caring man and great statesman. He had a great sense of "right and wrong" and stood buy his beliefs. His passing is a great loss to our State. May he Rest In Peace.

I knew of Jim Holsouser and saw him around Boone often during our school days. His father was a stellar and well known trial lawyer who became a judge. I visited Jim at his law office shortly before I left for law school at Chapel Hill. We briefly spoke of the possibility I might someday join him in his law practice. He was positive and very encouraging. Of course, things worked out differently, with his becoming governor and my moving to Georgia and practicing law here. I have always felt pride in knowing him a little, and have always had great respect for him. Rest in peace, Governor.

I enjoyed meeting the governor in Kansas City at the GOP national convention. After introducing him to two of my daughters who were with me, he said in perfect humor, "Dallas, you must have a beautiful wife because these girls don't look anything like you." I am glad to read more of his life and background with this obituary. Bless his family and those enriched by his life.

While Mr. Jim was Governor, I was allowed to have a special meeting face to face with him in Wilmington. When he instituted a week in which the public could visit the NC prisons, I took advantage, and because of Jim's honorable interest in the citizens of this state, I obtained much at the hands of this Governor.
After Jim's time was over, I had the honor of obtaining a former Assistant attorney General of 'my special Goveror' who went to bat to defend me and by that Attorney's know how and honorable ability caused Green Springs Boys Club Inc to be allowed to function and especially to obtain a much sought after permit to build a swimming pier for the thousands of kids that have by now swam from this pier.

I write this simply because Mr. Jim, er Governor Jim was what I believed a Governor should have been. He has always had a special place in my heart, and I want everyone to know that I, an unknown possibly, really had an awful lot of love and respect for this special man. My, don't I wish we had more like him.

It is with great sadness that I learned of Gov. Holshouser's passing. He was instrumental in opening my eyes to the process of democracy in our nation during his campaign for governor. I have always respected his willingness to mentor young college students.

I am very sorry to hear of Jim's passing. Fred Morrison had been keeping me apprised of his health over the past few weeks. I will never forget Jim hiring me for his law firm when I was fresh out of law school. It was a very rewarding few years practicing law with Jim until he became Governor, the with his father, Peck, before I went on the Superior Court bench, where I served for the remainder of my career. Those are years I will always cherish.

My condolences and prayers go out to the family in this time of loss.
