Ruth Williams Obituary

Ruth Lilian Ena Osgood Williams was born July 15, 1926 in London, England.  She peacefully passed away July 22, 2014 at her home in Akron, Colorado.  She was married August 26, 1945 to Leo L. Williams in St Margaret's Church of England, Putney, London, England.
Ruth was predeceased by her husband,  Leo L. Williams; her parents,  George and Ena Osgood; her son, Gary Dean Williams and her brother,  Christopher Osgood.  When Leo passed in April 1994 they had nearly 50 years together.
Ruth is survived by her daughters, Christine Barrett (Alvin), of Woodbury, TN; Beverley Clare (Michael) of Eaton, CO; her cousin, John Bone (Penny) of Hereford, England; grandson, Michael Barrett (Karie) and great grandson Hayden Michael Barrett of  Huntersville, NC; grandson Kevin Clare and great grandson's Keoni and Michael Thomas Clare of Fort Collins, CO;
granddaughter Mindy Rawlings of Eaton, CO and her fiance Jared Burton Sterling, CO; great granddaughter's Kaylie and Mya Rawlings of Eaton, CO.
Ruth's extended family members include, niece Jenean Williams Jones (David) of Oklahoma City, OK; nephew Danny Williams of Cushing, OK;  niece Sue DeWees (Andy) of Huntsville, TX; niece Kathy Harpel (John) of Aurora, CO.  She also leaves to mourn her passing special friends John Krause and Naomi McGinnis and numerous other friends.
Ruth attended the Wandworths Girl School in London England, until the beginning of World War II.
Her children remember Ruth's many stories about the London bombing during World War II.  Also, included in those stories were the scares they had of "duds" landing in her parent's backyard; of the children being loaded onto trains and shipped to the countryside to escape the bombing.  Of course, this interrupted Mom's schooling at the age of 15.  Her children also remember the story of she and her father hearing the "all clear" after a bombing run.  They went outside to check the area and got caught in a strafing run by a German fighter pilot.  She and her father dove into the blackberry bushes.
When Ruth became of age, she joined the Women's Auxiliary of the Royal Air Force.  This was in January of 1944 and she was discharged in November of 1945, after the war ended.  She served as a Teleprinter Operator.  She was discharged as an "Aircraft Women Second Class."  It was during her time of service that she met and married the "love of her life" Leo Williams - They were married on August 26, 1945.
Ruth came to Akron aboard a troopship, landing in New York City in 1946.  She stated at one time that she came to Akron as a "teen-aged war bride."  Ruth and Leo raised their three children in Akron, all attending the Akron School system. It was after their children had graduated that Ruth pursued the furthering of her education.  Since Ruth had received her education in England, which was interrupted by the war, she needed to get her high school equivalency.  She received her GED on May 1, 1970 through Northeastern Junior College in Sterling, CO.  Receiving her GED enabled her to further her education in pursuing life after "kids".
Ruth was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.  While Leo farmed, she kept the home fires burning, especially during wheat harvest.  You could always find Ruth in her kitchen (along with her daughters) preparing food for the harvest crew members.  She normally prepared two hot meals a day, transporting those meals to whichever field was being cut.  She actively supported her children's various school activities from band to sports.  She also helped with various 4-H projects.
Ruth retired from the Washington County Hospital in 1987 with 22 years of service.  She started in 1965 in the Business Office; in 1970 she established the Medical Records Department.  She became an accredited medical records technician in 1971.
Ruth had numerous hobbies, among everything else she did.  She loved to knit, teaching both of her daughters the craft.  She also loved to make latch-work rugs, ensuring that her family had a good supply.
In 1971 she became a member of the Transatlantic Brides and Parents Association.  This group consisted of War Brides that had come to make their home in the United States.  She loved keeping in touch with other war brides. In October 1977 Ruth decided she wanted to join Leo in the sky as a pilot.  She became a Visual Flight Rated (VFR) pilot in May of 1979.  They enjoyed many hours of flying to visit family and friends.
Ruth was an active member of the Order of Eastern Star until her health precluded participation.  She served in most of the offices and also as Worthy Matron, with Leo serving as Worthy Patron in the Akron Chapter.  She was a 50 plus year member of the Order of Eastern Star through the Sterling, CO chapter.
A funeral service was held Saturday, July 26, 2014 at the United Methodist Church of Akron.  Interment followed at the Akron Cemtery.  In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Hospice of the Plains, local Mobile Meals (Meals on Wheels), and the Alzheimer's Association of Colorado.
