In Loving Memory of Our Mother
Carmen Najero Romo
On Thursday, Oct. 3, 2013, Carmen Najera Romo heard God's whisper calling her home, but she didn't want to go and leave us alone. She loved us so much and held on tight, until all the strength was gone and she could no longer fight.
She gave her hand to God and slowly drifted away, knowing that with our love we will be together again someday.
Carmen was born Oct. 26, 1928, in Alamogordo. She was one of seven children born to Jose Maria Najera and Esther Martinez Najera. She married Umelio Romo and they had 10 children.
The family left to mourn her passing are her children Robert, David, Lincoln, Gilbert and Diane Romo, Theresa Aguilar, Margaret Cochran, Barbara Diaz, Elisa Sanchez, and Rosemary (Daniel) Avalos; and a brother Gustavo Najera. Carmen had 28 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Umelio Romo; parents Jose Maria and Esther Najera; her sister and brother-in-law Esther and Jesus "Chuy" Viscarra; sister Angela Najera; brothers and sisters-in-law Luis and Estella Najera, Joe "Chema" and Concha Najera, and Alfredo and Candelaria Najera; nephews Joe Najera, Armando Najera, Andy Viscarra, Edward Viscarra and Danny Rivera; niece Clara Rivera; and sons-in-law Daniel Aguilar and Daniel Cochran.
Carmen was a member of Immaculate Conception Church since childhood and a former member of the Guadalupanas.
Special thanks to Diane Romo and Margaret Cochran; the staff the staff at Coordinated Home Health; her caregiver for many years, Maria "Lupe" Martinez; the nurses at Encompass; Hospice and the doctors and staff at Gerald Champion Regional Medical Center.
