I am so sorry to hear of his death. I am John's first cousin, Julie Hawkins Melton. My husband and I stayed with him in his Alamagordo house in 2011.
We bought a house in New Mexico and hoped that he could visit. He was a lovely man, and on our last visit he gave me a picture from World War II. He was a young sailor and he was holding me, a young child, in his arms.

Although I only met him once a very long time ago (1977) in Albuquerque, NM, I actually still remember a few of our interactions. He seemed like a good guy, sensitive and caring. My sincerest condolences to everyone for their loss.

I never had the pleasure of meeting John, but feel like I knew him from hearing my dear friend, Ramsay, John's daughter, talk about him. It sounds like he lived a full life, with family and friends that loved him. Well done.
