Les was the most genuine and sincere of dear friends. I knew Les through our work together in floodplain management. He was an insightful, articulate and forward thinking water resources and floodplain management expert. He was gifted in his ability to look ahead, anticipate and sort together a vision. In addition to his expertise as an engineer he was remarkable as a communicator, writer and even orator. Les could handle it all. My most lasting memory though is of his welcoming spirit, his delight in people, his generosity and the joy his took in those around him. Les introduced me to Hatch, NM, green chilies and a recipe to go with. I have some frozen chilies thawing right now that will be transformed into a thick salsa. Thank you Les for nourishing the mind, the heart, the palate. You have given me treasured memories and traditions that will sustain me for a life. And to Estelle and the family I offer heartfelt sympathies.
