Longtime resident of Canyon, TX says 'adios' but not goodbye...
We are glad to say that Dad went to be with his Lord in the early morning of October 16, following complications from a stroke and Alzheimer's. Dad had been living in the loving care of Autumn Leaves of Amarillo.
Gene Noel was born on January 7, 1928, in Pampa, TX. He was 90 years old. He was an only child of Melvin and Verna May (Zimmerman) Noel of Canyon. They preceded him in death, along with his wife Silvia Ramona Gunstenson & Zelma Ruth Allmon both of Hereford.
He graduated from Claude High School in 1945 and West Texas State in 1949, with an Agriculture degree. He was a farmer all of his life and we are very proud of that fact! For many years, he was a seed milo grower for George Warner Seed in Hereford. Gene belonged to the Golden Spread Gem and Mineral Club (he was an Amarillo Rock Hound!), he was president several times and Canyon Lions Club, where he volunteered every chance he got, driving the Lion's Queen in a convertible, a golf cart to carry older people from the parking lot, up to the WT Football games or in the Concession Stands. He volunteered at the play 'Texas" for many years and the Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum for Christmas Open House and tours.
He and Zelma were members of the Square Dance Club, the Canyon Capers, we loved their fancy outfits! Other hobbies were rock polishing, using them for beautiful bolas and jewelry, stained glass Sailboats, lamps & figurines. He loved fishing, rock hounding across America and riding the rapids in Taos, NM. He was a member of the University Church of Christ of Canyon and the Hillside Christian Church of Amarillo.
Gene is survived by his family Lynn Eugene Noel of Panhandle, Debbie Miller of Irving, Michael Lee Noel of Wilburton, OK; Grandchildren Newton Cunningham of San Antonio, Walter Noel of North Zulch TX, Genie Timm of Robert Lee, Winston Noel of Longtown OK, Kelsey Hendricks of Ada OK, Carolyn Lowe of Wilburton OK; Niece Joycelyn Welch of Tulia; Nephews Richard, Lewis and Mike Aven; Great Grandchildren Wynonna Noel, Grayer and Holden Cunningham, Rio and Ransom Timm, Easton, Haisley and Scarlet Noel, Claire and Audrey Lowe.
Services will be held for Dad in the Chapel at Hillside Christian Church, West Campus, 6100 S. Soncy Rd, Amarillo, TX October 24, at 11:00 AM. Graveside Service will be at Dreamland Cemetery, 26500 S Hwy 87, Canyon, TX. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate in memory Melvin Eugene Noel, to the Alzheimer's Association, West Texas Chapter. Donate online or call 915-544-1799 for help, reference the Noel family, so we can be made aware of the donation and send you our thanks.

Thank you for sending this reminder of Gene Noel. It is good to remember the wonderful times from years gone by. His family was a blessing the Ed Zimmerman family. The towns; Pampa, Claude, Hereford, Amarillo, he lived in brought back many good memories.
