Andy was sort of a guru to me when I first moved to Ann Arbor. He taught me a lot about life and logic. I am so sorry he's gone.

I often spoke with Andy (my neighbor's gardener) who was very kind in sharing with me his advice on my own plantings and his consummate knowledge of flora. Andy, rest in Eden's Garden.

I was so sadden to hear of Andy's passing. We were very good friends in School. I read of a wonderful and productive life, which comes as no surprise. I always thought of him as a one of the brightest people I have known.

Knowing Andrew was a privilege and an honor and, above all, a great pleasure. His self-effacing nature concealed extraordinary wisdom about everything from Herculaneum and rare native plants to sophisticated architectural concepts. He was generous with his knowledge, a respecter of life in all its manifestations. He was a valued personal friend. He will be missed by all who knew him. -Bill Chase
