Dear Becky, Kemper, and John,

We were so saddened to learn of Chuck's passing. We truly have so many memories of the "old days" in Ann Arbor when are children were young and the start of many a weekend included Friday night volleyball in the gym of Abbot School! The passing of time will help to ease your sorrow, but it will never diminish the brilliance of your wonderful and beloved memories. We have you all in our thoughts and prayers.

Fondly remembering,
Roger and Gail Sonnett

Dear Mrs. Becky Vest and family,

I was surprised and sorrowed by news at naeDOTedu that Dr. Charles M. Vest died earlier this month. This guest book message, then, though not based on knowing him on a close personal basis nevertheless highlights his humility. That is, a personal e-mail exchange in the fall of 2011 informing the NAE through him of the Sept. 2011 death of NAE member Wesley L. Nyborg -- which Chuck as President had not heard about -- led to being invited through Chuck to write the NAE's memorial tribute for "Wes" who was my physics Ph.D. dissertation advisor over 1969-1974 at The Univ. of Vt. After minor revision by NAE, it was published in 2012 by the NAP in NAE's Memorial Tributes series, thus helping me to bring to closure my own grieving process. So then here go out to you my heartfelt condolences plus my own hope that someone may write a fine and timely memorial tribute to Chuck that illuminates the compassion of his humanity as well as the high distinction he achieved throughout his engineering career.

Sincerely, Hal Frost, age 71

Becky and Children, my very deepest sympathy at your and the world's great loss. We met when I came to Ann Arbor in l969 and I've "followed" your accomplishments since. I hope that warm
memories of your loving and giving years
together will brighten the emptiness of this time. My prayers are with you.

Dear Becky and Family,

Billie and I were deeply saddened to hear of Chuck's passing. He was in my humble opinion, the essence of friendship, scholarship and integrity. He will be sorely missed by all who had the pleasure of his company. Blessed are they that die in the Lord. They go now to eternal rest and their good deeds follow them.

With respect and admiration,

Henry and Billie Johnson
