Jim was always a caring, lively and bright stimulus in our student years at MIT. We also valued Ellen in those and later years, and were mightily impressed by the warm family feelings among his three tall, friendly, and sharp teen-age sons when once we dispossessed them from their bedrooms when staying overnight en route from Toronto to Milwaukee. I am so sorry at their passing; they were great role models.
Jim was my roomate for two years at Antioch College. I participated in his wedding at Glen Falls, NY. Our last contact was in 1957 when I was graduate student at Yale. I valued his friendship in our formative years, and deeply regret that our busy professional and family lives, and geographic locations came to preclude sharing more years. Jim defined the word "gentleman" in all aspects of his life.
I have such fond memories of Jim and Ellen visiting my Ann Arbor clothing store back in the early 80s. Condolences to the family.
We've just now gotten the sad. News, We're in Mexico,,,(filled with fond memories of Ellen and Jim.)

Elaine and I have been good friends of Jim for many years. He and I commuted together and shared many meals with him and Ellen. We will miss him. Our condolences to all of his fine family
We didn't get the opportunity to meet Jim, but we feel like we know him. We've met two of his sons and now live in the house he built. We have heard many stories about him and his wife raising their family in the home and see evidence of their strong family throughout. We wish all of his family and friends our best wishes while they celebrate his life today, and in days to come.
Jim was a great guy! It was good to be a part of his care for many years, sharing both the medicine and many interests in working for change in our community. Unfortunately, we will miss his celebration. Thanks for his life!
Jim was such a fantastic person and we are so glad he was in our lives. We have known him for 54 years and shared so many of lives experiences with him. Our condolences to the entire family but for sure you have wonderful memories to cherish.
