Iam so sorry for your loss. Iam chuck Johnson jean and I lived next store to your parents. They were good friends.
I just heard that "coach" had passed away. All my fellow sports classmates were sorry Leo could not attend our 50th reunion last year. We had many stories to tell about a coaching icon at St. Thomas High, I still have vivid memories of those 100 degree August "two a-day" football practices. Rest in peace Leo
I can't think of St. Thomas and not think of Mr Wagner! He was a fair and kind man. Peace and comfort to all of you. Marilyn Montoye Ludwig
Carol, Mary , & Mike,
Your Dad was the face of St Thomas HS while I was there - football coach, track coach, athletic director, Summer Fun director, bus driver. I can't think of anyone who gave more to the school. I know he changed the course of my life sophomore year track season by switching me to the 440 from the sprints. At the FGR Coach Wagner gym dedication, among the many funny stories, I also learned he was a war hero. His was a life well lived. You can be proud to be his chidren.
So sorry to hear of your Dad,s passing. We talked several times about him at Domino Farms in the Cafe and I'm sorry I never made it to Chelsea to see him. I just heard last night from Sandra. Had I known I sure
would have come to the funeral. I know he is greatly missed.
St. Thomas (73)
LEO AND PHYLLIS STARTED OUT AS NEIGHBORS, AND ENDED UP BEING BELOVED FRIENDS AND EUCHRE PARTNERS. THEY WILL BOTH ALWAYS BE CLOSE TO OUR HEARTS.
Who could ever forget,Runnin the pole, sprints on the hill at the rockpile, walking the tracks back after practice to a cold shower, laps in the old gym with the warped floorboards, the long cold drives to Kalamazoo St. A's in the bus with holes in the floor covered with cardboard,as they say "these are some of my favorite things" and You Coach will never be forgotten. Our prayers Mike, to you and the family...Bill & Mary Ann Tice
Dear Carol,Mary and Mike,
I have many fond memories of your Dad from my high school days at St. Thomas, but also of your Mom and Dad and you kids from my babysitting days with you. Your Dad and Mom were always loving, caring and nurturing, with a spirit and laughter that was contagious.
As my parents and yours were close friends,I was able to see them on my trips back to Ann Arbor over the years and their love of life and laughter and of each other was always in abundance.
All who have known your Dad have been blessed! and those of us who have known them both have been doubly blessed!!
Tom and I will be keeping you and all of your family in our thoughts and prayers. God bless you all. Love, Kathy
I was so sorry to read about Coach--many condolences to you all.
What a wonderful life; and what a loss.
He and Phyllis were the models of Christian caring. It cheers me to think of them together again in heaven.
With thanks for all the good they've done.
Couch Wagner brings many good memories of St. Thomas Days. My prayers to his family.
Our sincere condolences to 'Wags', Dee and their Family on the loss of a fine man. Bev remembers Leo J. Wagner very well from her associations with St. Thomas Church and School, where he was an institution for many years. May L.J. rest in peace.
Leo was very active in the Knights of Columbus with the bowling league and social activities. He and Phyliss were good friends.
My condolences to the family Rosemary Bllakemore
Please accept our deepest condolences, and know that we keep your family close in thought & prayer. Special hugs to you, dearest Donnie--we were saddened to hear of the loss of your brother. Much gratitude for his service to our country and the lives he touched in his years at St. Thomas. Much love to you at this difficult time.
Dear Carol (classmate), Mary (cheerleader buddy), and Mike (in my brother Jim's class) I extend my sincere condolences to you all. I really liked your dad--such a nice guy. He was always "Coach" to me. And for some reason I remember him being the driver to our Summer Fun Programs when we reached high school and went out to Portage Lake (at night)...and he'd even dim the lights on the bus (ahem..) for those in the back! He was respectful and friendly and my high school years were a lot nicer with him there. Hugs to all.
Gala (Burns) Lirette
What a wonderful legacy to have been a positive force in so many lives and to have the gym at Father Gabriel Richard after him.
57 tears ago,I left St. Thomas after 12 years of fine Catholic education. Part of the reason I'll always remember that time was a great chemistry teacher and coach..A man who was always respectful of his students and therefore gained the love and respect from all he taught and coached. Rest in peace...
Thank you for your service to our country. May you rest in peace guarding the pearly gates of heaven. Semper Fi
Most likely, we all knew his given name was Leo, but to most of us he was simply "Coach" Wagner. An institution at St. Thomas who cared about kids; was kind and authoritative in equal measure. Most of all he cared for Mary, Mike and Carol. My condolences to all of you. Your dad was a very good man and we are all enriched by knowing him.
Dear Wagner Family, So sorry to hear of Mr Wagner's passing. He was a good man who had an influence on us during our high school years and beyond.

Leo Wagner was a great coach and a even better friend. You will be missed.
Coach was a model for all of us both as a coach and through
the rest of his life. I may have to run the pole one last time.

Our condolences to all the Wagner family, especially Carol, Mary & Mike. Your father was admired by so many. He joins your mom now and is at peace in God's loving arms. Cherish your wonderful family memories. God bless you all.
When we remember our high school years at St. Thomas, we remember Coach Wagner as a significant part of the school. As a great teacher, he was an important part of our daily lives. We remember him with fondness, as he always had a smile on his face.

Mike and Family, I am so sorry to read of your the loss of your Dad. He was my coach, teacher and friend. For some reason last week --- I was thinking about Coach Wagner. He will be greatly missed by so many others because he was their "coach, teacher and friend".
great coach, great teacher, great neighbor
Leo Wagner played a major role in my development as a student athlete at St. Thomas H.S. as he did for so many others over the years. I am forever grateful for his time, enthusiasm and helpful advice.
Coach Wagner's Family ...
You have heard this over and over and I anticipate you will always hear the same thing. I was not one of his athletes but I too can say that Coach Wagner was respected and appreciated, not only while we were in school, but after leaving St. Thomas High School. He was and remains a great role model for everyone. Thank you for sharing him with so many of us. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Sincerely,
Leo Wagner was a good man! He has touched many and will be missed by those who have felt his influence.
