Janice Westphal Obituary

Age 68, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 19, 2012 at her home under Will's loving care. Jan was born July 6, 1944 in Mankato, Minnesota, the daughter of RiTchard G. & Edna C. (Fesselt) Schull. After growing up in Minnesota, Jan traveled with her husband, who was in the Air Force, until 1968. They ended up in Chelsea in 1970, and have lived in the same house since then. She went to work at Michigan District of the Missouri Synod Lutheran Church in Ann Arbor in 1982, and worked there until her retirement on Dec. 31, 2002. Jan was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church, and enjoyed fishing, gardening, and going to auctions. On Jan. 17, 1965, she married Willis "Will" D. Westphal in St. Clair, MN, and he survives. Other survivors include a daughter, Wendy (Allen) Cole of Chelsea; a son, Scott (Melissa) Westphal of San Diego, CA; four sisters, Ida (Conley) Birr of MN, Carol More of MN, Joan (Dean) Lavitschke of MN, and her twin sister, Janelle Imm of TX; three grandsons, Brian, Joshua, and Nathan Cole; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 22, 11:00 am at Cole Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Dale Grimm officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove East Cemetery in Chelsea. The family will receive friends Friday 2-4 and 6-9 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to Our Savior Lutheran Church.
