Dear Wikel family and extended members. We will surely miss Howard and his wonderful smile and great attitude. He probably wouldn`t mind too much that I mention he would how kind he was to me especially after a win over the Spartans. He never rubbed it in and was as gracious regardless of who won or loss.I remember when Bill McCartney first came to CU and Howard set up a wonderful one on one visit with Coach Mac and his wife and myself.Howard brought a special U of M memento as a gift and as I recall a baked turkey. Coach and Howard had a spirited discussion about U of M and his days in Michigan and I was thrilled just being there.Who would have known that Coach Mac would become one of greatest coaches in school history winning a national championship especially after a winless start as well as instumental spiritual leader.Except maybe Bo and Howard. I think it must have been Howards carma. Howard was kind enough to arrange tickets for a few games for me in the Big House as long as I behaved myself. When Howard and Betty came out to Colorado for a visit it was always a fun trip over to the Jordans house for a rousing discussion about sports. My daughters boyfriend at the time went to U of M on a baseball scholarship from Cherry Creek Hugh School in Englewood Co and Howard was right there to welcome him. He even helped him with some summer work with a vending business and some painting.I really don`t know how Howard found the time to do all of that but he sure enjoyed it.Occasionely I`d go back and play golf at Barton and would see Howard there with a big smile welcoming me in . He never asked for anything in return. His legacy as well as Betty`s will always be remembered by our family . I`m sure that it gave them much satisfaction to know that their decendants have inherited their graciousness and kindness. Howard was and always will be remembered as the consumate "True Gentleman". Ralph,Cindy and the entire Wieleba family.

Dad, who knew Howard in college, said he was a great hitter. Not surprising to anyone who saw him hit a golfball. Though his feats of athleticism are well known, they pale in comparison to his countless acts of kindness and generosity. Surely we are better people because of his presence in our lives. Thank you.

To the Wikel family,
Howard & Betty were good friends of my parents going back to the 50s & early 60s. He was always very gracious to me over the years and got me football tickets many times.
Howard was a tremendous person who will be missed by a great many people. Go Blue !!
