I knew Howard through golf growing up in Ann Arbor, but lately through Jim Carras, who was ever present in Howard's life in recent years, I got to know him much better. We shared sports, politics, old friends and humor. Even with his failing eyesight and pyhsical health, his mind was razor sharp. He was current on EVERTTHING and quite willing to share an analysis of Michigan football, the current economy and the state of the White House. He was a bright spot in my life in the past few years and will be missed by me, his multitude of friends and all those he he crossed paths with in his daily routine....whether it be at his residence manor, old friends or the waitress who served his breakfast at Hollidays. Good Bye,Pal Buck Breiholz, Carmel, CA

Howard was a wonderful man and such a wonderful person to have known. He was a true Michigan man. I know he will be missed, but he leaves behind an amazing legacy.

As a fellow former store owner (Leslie Office Supply, Inc., it should be noted the retail pharmacies, Wikel Drugs, that prospered in two locations in Ann Arbor. I know- these types of operations do not function efficiently and successfully without direct involvement and commitment by the owner. Rest well, my friend.

On behalf of my family, may I offer our deepest condolences. Howie was a great and influential friend to our parents, and the U of M sports community. His legacy will prevail forever in Ann Arbor.
