Jean Storey Obituary

Storey, Jean Caroline Jean was born July 30, 1923 in Ionia, Michigan, and passed away peacefully on November 21, 2018. She was the daughter of Robert R. & Virginia H. (Metzger) Weisgerber. Jean grew up on a dairy farm and was involved in all the activities you would expect her to be curious about. Jean graduated from Ionia High School in 1941, and then attended business school in Lansing, Michigan. She was employed by Michigan Bell in East Lansing while Bill attended Michigan State College (now MSU) from 1946-1949. Jean and Bill moved to Chelsea in 1950, and to Jefferson Street in 1961 where they raised a family and lived for fifty-five years. Jean was a wonderfully loving mother and homemaker. She was involved in the Girl Scouts, band boosters, and took her son's Cub Scout Den on adventures to the Waterloo Recreation Area. Like many parents, she was the family's driver's training instructor, patiently coaching her children along one of the Chelsea areas gravel roads. Later, she was the receptionist at Dr. Joseph Krauss' office in Chelsea. Jean was a member of Chelsea First United Methodist Church, where she was active as a Sunday School teacher, a member of the Sarah Circle, Christian Home, and choir. Jean was first president of the Chelsea Garden Club. She enjoyed the birds in her own beautiful garden and instilled a reverence for nature in all her children. Jean was a devoted friend to many, of all ages. After meeting on New Year's Eve 1940 and corresponding with him during the war years, Jean married William F. Storey on August 31, 1946. Bill preceded her in death, passing on February 15, 2018. Jean's survivors include three children, Sarah (Dennis) White of Onsted, James Storey of Traverse City, and John (Elizabeth) Storey of Grand Rapids; her brother, Robert "Stuart" Weisgerber of Ionia; six grandchildren, Marc (Ann) White, Peter White, Jill (Jeffrey) Blazok, Molly Storey, Camden Storey, and Anna Storey, and five great-grandchildren, June White, Nolan and Drew White, Abigail and Charlie Blazok. Alice Johnson, her sister, preceded her in death. Jean's life will be celebrated in a memorial service in the spring of 2019 on a date to be announced. Burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery in Chelsea. Memorial contributions may be made to Silver Maples Silver Lining Fund or Arbor Hospice of Ann Arbor.

Jean and Bill were very special neighbors to us on Jefferson Street. We had three busy boys and one daughter at the time. Our daughter Rosemary considered Jean her best friend, despite their 70 year plus age difference. Jean welcomed her in the garden and they spent many hours having lunch, cookies, and lessons about flowers and plants. Jean and Bill hosted the most lovely Christmas parties and they will forever be in our hearts. Love and our condolences, Paul, Kathy, William, Pj, Rosemary and Mitchell Edds❤

What a kind and warm lady Jean was. The world has lost another bright light but heaven shines brighter with her presence there. She and Bill are together again and happy I am sure. RIP Jean.

My sincere condolences for your loss. As you endure this difficult time of sorrow, please turn to the Most High God for comfort as his word assures us at Jeremiah 29:12,13 "you will call me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you."
