I just learned of John's passing from the SU alumni magazine. I lived next door with my roommate and we played Bridge almost every night the year I got my Master's at the Maxwell School. What had a great time! Later I learned he had just retired from W&L when our son started Law School there. Sorry we missed him.

Gwen: I recently learned of John's untimely passing and wanted to express my condolences. The obituary lets me know that you and John enjoyed a wonderful, fun-filled life after leaving Lexington. He was a very close friend during our years together as new faculty members at W&L. He had an extremely positive influence on his students here and was a joy to be around. My thoughts are with you and your family.

John was my favorite professor at Washington & Lee University (early 1980's). John was hilarious, smart and demanding. He did not suffer fools.

I greatly enjoyed getting together with John and Gwen in Chicago and with John in Ft. Lauderdale. I never saw John happier than when he was with Gwen.

Gwen... the memorial service was beautiful. John is truly cherished by friends, family, and former students. May his memory continue to be a blessing. Love,
Allan, Greg, and Adelle
