I was a student working for John at the old Highway Safety Research Institute (now UMTRI) in 1972-73. John was not only bright, but he was a very nice person, absolutely great guy to work for. He will be greatly missed.

Doris, We will never forget our time in CART working for John, making Racecars safer. Our thoughts are with you.

Probably more than anyone else, John gave me an appreciation for the science of measuring and preventing injury. We worked together at GM, tried a case together in Midland, Texas, and enjoyed talking about what was known, knowable, and unknown about biomechanics. John made huge contributions to motor vehicle safety and his work lives on. My sincere condolences to John's family, freinds and the safety community for his passing.

John was a good friend and a highly respected colleague. His support of my work over the past few years will always be remembered. Since I first met him in 1975, I came to know John as one of the giants in our field. He will be greatly missed. My deepest condolences to the Melvin family.

My condolences to the Melvin family. John was instrumental in much of the early research into protecting child passengers in motor vehicles. We at Safe Ride News Publications and others in the child passenger safety field recognize the impact he made. So his work lives on.
