I will always remember Charlie fishing first thing in the morning, on his pontoon boat on Whitmore Lake. It would be Charlie, Lonnie Cryer, Ron Fox, Earl Corkins, and myself. We would catch our limit of Bluegill, Sunfish, Croppy, and an occasional Bass. Charlie would have his radio, a car radio with 2 speakers, playing Country Music.

At the end of fishing that day, docking his pontoon boat off his doc, and we'd all be filleting the catch of the day. Charlie would get out his well seasoned cast iron frying pan, and Charlie would cook up all the fish we caught that day. We'd go home with a budda belly from all the fish we ate that day.

If you were one of Charlie's friends, well God had truely blessed you. He was always there to help you, whether it was helping to move you, or to go so far as to loan you his car when yours had broken down. He'd host the poker game at his house if we need him to do that.

Charlie will be missed by many, I sure know I will miss him, his smile, and his laugh. Rest in peace my friend. May God bless you with a fish on you line while your fishing, or playing poker with one of the guys. Say high to my dad and my grandp Groomes, when you see them in heaven. The world has lost one of the GREAT GUYS from a small number of guys living in Whitmore Lake.
