Your generation was unquestionably extraordinary. You were born during "The Great War / WWI" (1914 - 1920); your adolescence was defined by "The Great Depression"(1929 - 1939); your young adulthood was demarcated by WWII (1941 - 1945); then, your age group married (1946-1956).

There shall never be another generation who were so unselfish, loving, gracious, thoughtful, kind, and polite. The “Baby Boomer Generation”, your children, which followed you, are now conscious of the fact that your peers are unequaled. We can only express our gratitude for a job brilliantly completed. Your example showed to us the foundation of the American Spirit, to never give up and be strong in the face of adversity.

You were always loved and cherished for your pattern of achievement but also for your love and graciousness in showing us your dignity.

Thank you, Mama, we shall ALWAYS miss you.

Love, Your family.

Dear Denise and Conn,

Please accept my deepest and heartfelt sympathies on the loss of your mother. My childhood memory of Mrs. McGillicuddy is a tall, slender beautiful woman who was always smiling. My brother, Darryl, and I spent so much time with the McGillicuddy family you were our extended family. As an adult reading her obituary, I am honored to say ‘I knew Mrs. Ruth McGillicuddy ‘. Thank you for the wonderful childhood memories.

Love,
Rechima Dawn (Princess) Massey

I so enjoyed getting to know Ruth when I was stationed here in the Army, we had an instant connection. She even tried to find me a military husband, it ended up being one of my Sergeant Majors! We got a good chuckle out of that one. When I had foot surgery, she came to visit me at my apartment above the Days Inn on Highway 31, I prayed she drove and didn't cross Hwy 31 afoot. Shortly after I was transferred to my next duty station in Denver, I never forgot her and when I was reassigned to Birmingham again, I wondered how & where she might be. She truly made an impression on me, and others I know.

Denise, I have absolutely no doubt that your mother is smiling down on you from heaven now, knowing her beautiful daughter has carried on the tradition of the southern lady! God bless all of you!

Much love,

As a teenager, Ruth was one of my heroes. She was a joy and always made me feel special. Ruth and Sedalia, my mother, were first cousins and shared not only their birth year but also their wit. In my mind I imagine them together again in Heaven, laughing and entertaining others! Rest In Peace, Ruthie!

Don't know your mom or your family but just read this great history of her life. My dad served in WWII and I admire anyone who served our country during that time and now. I also am a proud University of Alabama fan and am sure your mom is saying Roll Tide in Heaven.
