Frank John Little Sr.
AGE: 87 • Beach Haven
Frank John Little Sr., 87, of Beach Haven, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 9, 2013, at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, surrounded by his loving family. Born in the Bronx, New York City on Jan. 1, 1926, he moved to Jersey City, NJ at age nine where he resided until graduating from Henry Snyder High School in 1944. He then joined the U.S. Army, and was awarded the Purple Heart after serving in combat during WWII in Northern France, the Battle of the Bulge, Central Europe and the Rhineland. He finished his tour of duty as part of the 35th Infantry Division, and was honorably discharged in 1946. Returning to Jersey City, he was employed by the real estate firm of James P. Clark until he moved to Reading, PA where he opened a successful custom furniture manufacturing business. He moved his family to Beach Haven, NJ in 1962, and opened the Sans Motel in 1964.
As a well-known figure in local politics, Frank served on the Beach Haven Borough Planning Board for four years, and was reappointed prior to his election as Mayor of Beach Haven. He served as Mayor from 1970 until 1974 during which time he worked diligently to establish Southern Ocean County Hospital (SOCH) in Manahawkin, NJ. As a Borough Planner, Frank was instrumental in the adoption of the first Master Plan of Beach Haven. He is credited with eliminating industrial zoning which protected the resort nature of the community, and implementing suitable ordinances which protected the dunes along its beautiful beaches. Frank was a devoted Yankees fan, enjoyed country western music and Florida winters, and loved his family above all else.
Frank was predeceased by his beloved wife, Victoria in 1996. He is survived by his loving wife, Ileana Little; his sister, Vivian Still of Winter Spring, Fla.; his son, Frank Little Jr. and wife Paula of Barnegat; his son, Roy Little and wife Libby of Annapolis, MD; his daughter, Jeanne Ladewig and husband Duane of Littleton, CO; Ileana's son, George Middleton and wife Linda of Beach Haven; her son, Edward Middleton and wife Bonnie of Bowie, MD; her daughter, Judi Middleton of Frederick, MD; their 14 grandchildren, Christopher and wife Erin, Megan and husband Sergio, Stephen and wife Carolyn, Mark and wife Jessica, Molly, Curtis, Elaine, Paul, Brian, Montgomery, Amanda, Hailey, Jillian and Trevor; and 10 great-grandchildren.
