Hello,
My intention was to "stand for" Mauro today. I know he would have appreciated that gesture, but unfortunately we are in the midst of some very serious family illness right now and I will not be able to attend. As the former Cheif of Operations for NYC Parks in Brooklyn, I had the honor of working with Mauro for a good number of years. Even after he retired he would come stop by my office when he was in Brooklyn visiting. We also did some "protesting" together outside the job and supported our military and vets as well and in that sense, we were very like-minded, patriotic and so forth. He was a beautiful person, tough-minded, yet compassionate, understanding and incredibly hardworking. Mauro always wanted to get it done "the right way." He cared and he was a very proud individual. Very proud of his family. I am very sorry for your loss....for our loss. One of the true great guys. I'm certain that Brooklyn Parks will do something to honor him in the future. We are sending a donation to the Intrepid Fallen Heros Fund...a perfect choice for Mauro. May God Bless you all and keep you safe and strong.
