I had a wonderful Great Uncle in Gene. He was a great councilor to me when I was a child. I always felt safe with him. He was awesome to talk to, intelligent and encouraging. He was the first to comfort me when my Great Grandmother was passing from her life, his hand on my shoulder and love in his words. I always felt welcome at his table and in his home. He showed me, as well as US all how a loving man is. I love you, Uncle Gene. I'm always so proud to share that you served our country during the Korean War in the United States Navy and I THANK YOU for your service.

I will always love you and I miss you and your awesome laugh...

Katrina (Calkins) Straughn

p.s. I love you too, Aunt Barbara, more than you will ever know...we will ALWAYS be family

When I was a little girl on a farm in central Kansas, my BIG cousin, Gene, would come to Kansas to help my Dad, Jonas, with the wheat harvest on the farm during the summer. I loved having him at our house. He was so much fun, and loved his big laugh - I called him my "Big Brother." We didn't get to see him too often because he and the Siemens family lived in Oklahoma, and his dad was a mail man so it was hard for them to come to Kansas.

What an incredible, honorable man. Gene lived a life according to the scripture with love, enthusiasm, kindness, and humor. He and Barbara have been a vital part of my life--great times together, celebrations of birthdays and graduations, prayer times, and fun swimming times. I was so honored when Gene agreed to read 1 Corinthians 13 at my wedding. He helped so many people and generously gave of his time. My heart goes out to Barbara, Mike, Mark, and Matt and the rest of the family. What a blessing it has been to know Gene. You shall be greatly missed here on earth. Lori Radtke Bowles

When I think of my brother, Donald Gene Siemens, I remember these verses...Praise the Lord! For he has heard my cry for mercy. The Lord is my strength and shield. I trust him with all my heart. He helps me, and my heart is filled with joy. I burst out in songs of thanksgiving. Psalm 28:6-7

He may be my little brother, but in his strength and faith in Jesus Christ, he will always be my 'big' brother in my heart. Whatever Gene did, he did with his whole heart! I love you, Gene. Praising God for you!!!
