LtCol Melton was of the old Corps, a direct and honest Marine with great integrity. He was a great XO, leader of Marines, and mentor for me at MCCES. May he rest in peace, and may God bless his family. - Semper Fidelis
Karen, I had the honor of serving with Ed at 29 Palms -- please know that Sandy and I will keep Ed and your family in our prayers. He was a great Marine with a generous spirit.
I had the honor of serving as the LtCol's S-6 Comm-Elec Officer at MATCS-38 in Tustin '88-'89. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and the family during this time.
Dear Karen and Family,
We send our support, sympathy and our friendship. Ed was a special Marine, a dedicated patriot and a gentleman. We remember the El Toro tour, your Christmas Letters of uncontained enthusiasm and happiness. Yours is truly a celebration on your life with Ed and your family. With deep respect,
Joe & Linda Robben
Karen, with great sadness we learned of his passing, but with joyful memories of long ago, I remember well our time together in the Corps. May the Lord shine his grace on you and yours and comfort you. I will never forget him.
We will miss Ed so much, he was one of the reasons we retired June 1, 2013 so we could spend some time with Karen and Ed. Greg always wanted to go back to Washington with Ed. He was one of Greg's best friends. He cut our wedding cake with his Marine sword in his white Marine Uniform. We will truly miss you, and love you always. Love Freddie Shirlene and husband Greg Davis.
Cynthia and I offer our thoughts and prayers to you and your family on Ed's untimely passing.
Ed and your service as a Marine family contribute today amongst our newest generation of Marine families. Word is going out on Ed's passing amongst our Marines who had the privilege of serving with both of you.
We will remember Ed during our future tributes to absent friends.
Remembering you and our service together - Semper Fi!
The world was a better place.
I am very sorry to hear about LtCol Melton's passing. He was my first XO as a brand new Warrant Officer and he took the time to mentor me at MCCES. May God's grace and comfort be with the family.

Karen & Family, may the good Lord provide strength and resolve, may you fondly remember the great life experiences, and per the MC Hymn, may you remember that Ed is now guarding the streets in Heaven. I also recently lost a loved one, when my younger brother unexpectedly passed away 2 days prior to Ed. Semper Fidelis.
So sorry to hear about Ed's passing. Will keep your family in our prayers. S/F Bob Speakman
May words of comfort rest gently upon your heart, and in time may they become words of healing.

I knew Ed since grade school and through high school and college. He was my friend; a decent, caring, and thoughtful person who will be missed by anyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.
