Don was one of my first employment supervisors. He was always very kind, friendly, polite, encouraging, informative and professional. He was good at his job and good at being a supervisor. Even after all of these years, I have not forgotten him or the impact he had on my life and attitude towards work. We would sit around at lunch time and ask him questions and discuss the topic of the day. We even discussed religion, which is when I learned of his faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. At that time, he and his wife attended the local southern baptist church in Live Oak.
I recall that he took the wedding invitation my wife and I gave him 24 years ago, and gave it to his wife. For our wedding gift, he returned the invitation to us in a beautiful hand made wedding photo album created by his wife. Of course we still have it, cherish it, and will never forget him through it. I also recall him backing me up when another employee (who had been drinking on the job and was significantly impaired) I was supervising pulled a knife on me and threatened to kill me. The employee left handcuffed in the back of a patrol car never to return.
Even though I have not seen him in about 23 years or so, just knowing he is gone makes me very sad and this world will not only miss him, but needs millions of more men like him.
Boss, the thought of seeing you again makes eternity and heaven all the sweeter. I'll see ya at the house...
