I am so honored to have played softball for Coach McKray. Like many, he made a positive impact in my life teaching me about teamwork, dedication and love for the sport. He will be missed and my thoughts and prayers are with Louise and the rest of his family.

Coach McKray taught flawless fundamentals in all sports, from throwing a football to shooting a basketball, and so much more. He was my gym coach through high school and I now pass along those lessons to my son. You were always firm and fair coach. Thank you

I met Rich in 1952 in a West side League D championship basketball game. The Cubs' UCLA full court press blew Gridley away that day, and for the next four years. The closest our Bulldogs came was 10 points in 1956. In the 1956 GIBT the undefeated Cubs took another undefeated team, El Cerrito to double OT. Rich and I met during the late 1980s at Sacramento softball TOCs; he talked fondly of that 1956 GIBT game. Rich was one of those great athletes that could play and coach any sport. Rich's attitude and love of life, family, and sports will be greatly missed.

I had the privilege of having Mr. Mckray in my life from a 7th grader at Gray Ave well after high school. He was one of my favorite people in the world. I will always remember his sense of humor and wit especially when we worked together during peach season. Words cannot express how saddened I am by his passing. I wish I had contacted him throughout all these years as I had intended. I thought of him often. I hope his loving family can find peace at this difficult time. Our prayers are with you.

Dear Louise,
I so enjoyed working for many years with Rich at YCHS. What fun it was for me to hear, "hey shoes"! I knew Rich was close by, as that was his special nickname for me. I guess I had a few shoes to match my outfits I wore to work and he always made me laugh about my excess in that department!
A long hard battle this fine man has fought. I will miss him.
Please accept my most sincere condolences.
