Betty Fisk Obituary

Born January 8, 1927, Betty was the only child of Charles and Euphia Morey. Though her birth certificate states her place of birth as Falconer, New York, she was actually born just outside of town in a farmhouse. She had an older half-sister, Odetta (Peet) Thompson.

Most of her formative years were spent in Falconer, though the family did spend a couple of years in Darby, Montana. Her father joined his brother-in- law to help manage a farming and ranching operation; the family soon returned to Falconer. It is note-worthy that, while in Montana, Betty attended a one-room elementary school. She graduated from Falconer High School, 8th in her class, in 1946 and began working at a local tool manufacturer. She married Daniel Kennedy, a high school classmate in January 1947. Betty and Daniel had one child, son Gregory. They separated shortly after, divorcing in 1952. After separating, Betty moved with her parents to be near family in Lander, Wyoming mostly for her mother's health.

Betty met Dean Fisk in Lander; they married in April 1952 and remained married for 63 years until Dean's passing in 2015.

Betty and Dean operated several successful businesses in Lander. Betty kept financial records for the businesses, continuing to manage the family finances throughout her life. The family moved to Lodi, CA in 1965. Dean re-entered Federal Civil Service the following year. Civil Service took them to Colorado and Wyoming. They eventually returned to California at Yuba City where Dean retired from Federal Service at Beale Air Force Base. They stayed in the area after Dean's retirement, living in Yuba City for 32 years.

Betty and Dean enjoyed many social activities including square dancing, RV travel and competitive contract bridge. Betty became an accomplished bridge player, achieving Life Master status in 1996. Both were active members of First Lutheran Church of Yuba City.

Betty passed to God's hands July 29, 2016 after a mercifully brief battle with a virulent infection. She is interred next to Dean at Sutter Cemetery in Sutter, CA. Betty is fondly remembered by all who knew her; nearly all her friends felt more like family. She leaves behind son Gregory and his wife Sandra, granddaughter Shannon Kennedy Nesbitt and her husband Sean Nesbitt, great-grandchildren Emerson and Harlow Nesbitt.

For those wishing to provide a memorial, please send a contribution to First Lutheran Church, 850 Cooper Avenue, Yuba City.
