Carol Horn Obituary

Carol Horn

Carol (Loterbauer) Horn passed away peacefully at her home in Sioux Falls, SD on April 15, 2013 after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Carol was born on October 9, 1953 to Raymond and Esther (Helwig) Loterbauer in Webster, SD. She graduated from Bristol High School in 1971. She went on to earn a Medical Assisting degree from Lake Area Technical Institute, in Watertown, SD and also an Associates Degree in Business from Dakota State University in Madison, SD.

On May 7, 1978 Carol welcomed her only child, Alicia. Carol cherished being a mother more than anything else in the world. August 17, 1986 Carol was united in marriage to Jim Horn in Mobridge, SD. They made their home in Sioux Falls where Carol worked at Central Plains Clinic, Northwestern Mutual Life, and finally at Yellow Freight Transportation.

In 2007, Carol welcomed Nick Luther as her son in law. The next few years brought her the two greatest joys in her life, her grandsons, Gavin and Emmett.

Carol had a love for life. She had a vivacious sense of humor and an infectious laugh. She loved to landscape, decorate, sew and read. She especially loved shopping with her sister Cindy. Carol always put others first. She was the epitome of a people person. She was a devoted friend to many and made friends wherever she went.

She enjoyed time spent with family most of all. Those grateful for sharing her life are her husband, Jim Horn, daughter Alicia (Nick) Luther, grandsons Gavin and Emmett Luther, sister and best friend Cindy Pischke, Sioux Falls and parents Raymond and Esther Loterbauer, Watertown, SD and a plentitude of friends.

Visitation and Funeral will be held at St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church in Sioux Falls, SD. Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 18, 2013 with family present from 5 p.m. - 7 p.m. with a rosary and service to follow. Funeral will begin at 1 p.m. on Friday, April 19, 2013.

In accordance with Carol's wishes the family asks that no pink flowers be sent to the funeral.
