Wayne Burgers
Wayne Burgers was born September 13, 1923 on a farm near Colton, SD to parents Steve and Jane (DeWeerd) Burgers where he also spent his childhood. He was united in marriage to Kathryn (Kay) Swier on April 22, 1943. After their marriage they farmed from 1944 to 1965 near Humboldt, SD. In 1965 they moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan, there Wayne was in commercial construction, he was a hard worker, good at all his endeavors, and enjoyed his work. They lived in Michigan until 1999 when he retired and they moved to Sioux Falls. Wayne was a lifelong member of the Christian Reformed Church, taught Sunday school and was an usher. He loved the Lord, and his faith was strong. Wayne enjoyed traveling with Kay, baseball and miniature golf.
Wayne went to be with his Savior on May 17, 2013 at Bethany Home in Brandon, SD.
Grateful for having shared his life are: his wife, Kay, daughters and their spouses, LaVonne (Eugene) Baumberger, Dell Rapids and Beverly (Bernard) Den Ouden, Massachusetts; 7 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and 2 great great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Melvin (Ailene), Sioux Falls and Elmer (Julia), Colton.
He was preceded in death by a son Steven Wayne; 5 brothers, Henry, Albert, Gerrit, John and Walter and 2 sisters, Ida Schut and Henrietta Swier.
The family would like to thank the staff at Bethany Home for all the wonderful care given to Wayne during his stay there.
Memorials may be directed to Sioux Falls Christian High School.
A Celebration of Life Service will begin at 1:30 pm Tuesday, May 21, at First Christian Reformed Church, 2901 East 26th Street, Sioux Falls. Visitation will be from 2:00 to 8:00 pm Monday at Heritage Funeral Home with the family present from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. www.heritagesfsd.com.

My memories of my Uncle Wayne, include a horse named Silver, Oliver tractors, and a very distinguished looking gentleman. When I lost my son, he reassured me that we would both be reunited with our sons someday. My thoughts and prayers are with the family.
