Tom Ryan-Hirst Obituary

ATHENS - Tom Ryan-Hirst stepped suddenly from this mortal plain into the presence of his loving Savior, Jesus Christ, on Feb. 7, after a valiant fight with complications of severe pneumonia. Originally from Michigan, he also lived in Washington, Alabama and Ohio.

He was a gentle-hearted, loving man with a lively sense of humor as well as being a true, faithful friend.

Tom is survived by his wife, Carla; daughter, Hannah; and many very beloved family members.

Tom worked as a luthier and was a passionate musician, music historian, and music teacher. He graduated from Ohio University with master's degrees in music composition and music history. He loved teaching music classes at the OU Athens and Lancaster campuses. Tom also was employed at The Athens Messenger as part of a terrific pagination work team.

Tom requested that, due to his extended hospital stay, in lieu of flowers, contributions for final expenses and medical costs be made c/o The Plains United Methodist Church, 3 N. Plains Road, The Plains, OH 45780.

A memorial service is being planned for April 7. Details will be available in March from The Plains Methodist Church office, 740-797-4163.
