I am so sorry for your loss.

My sincere condolences to the family of Barry Marler. It takes a special person to be in Law enforcement. He is surely missed by the community. May the day soon come when "death is brought to nothing."(1 Corinthians 15:26)

God bless the family of Barry Marler in their time of grief.

Barry Marler was my Commanding Officer at the Atlanta Police Department during my formative years as a police officer. I loved and respected him. I was always in awe of his social intelligence. In the several times I worked for him I learned the difference between management (doing things right) and leadership (doing the right things). He was blessed with a natural ability for leadership.

I worked for him when he was Evening Watch Commander, Task Force Commander, and as the Commander on the Midtown Detail. The midtown area was primarily a foot assignment in the early seventies. After assembly each morning, we would walk the perimeter together and discuss events, politics and life. We stopped and talked with citizens and he was never too busy listen to them. In fact I always knew him to be kind to everyone without regard for rank or social status.

I have been blessed by having such a man to work for and who was such a positive influence on me. As I progressed through the ranks, I always remembered the lessons taught to me by Barry Marler about character and personal and professional integrity. Throughout my career I always strived to emulate all qualities that he passed on to me.

As long as his memory exists in the hearts of those who knew and loved him in this life, we will possess a piece of his being and will undoubtedly pass this on to people that we know and love, and this will go on forever.
