I was saddened to read of Billy's death. We became acquainted in 1996 when I contacted him about his WW II experience. My brother, Lowell, was the nose gunner when then 2/Lt Jones was co-pilot of a B-24 in the Pacific. They trained with the rest of the crew in the U.S. and went on to Manila and Okinawa. The end of the war ended the need for bomber crews and Lowell went on to Japan with the navigator of the B-24. At Okinawa, Lowell wrote in his diary about Billy taking out the life raft behind the pilot's seat (a no-no)of an A-20 and inviting him to take a flight with him. Lowell wrote about him landing near their tent city in an L-4 and visiting. Lowell wrote also about Billy hitting a power line in Japan and crashing into the bay, close enough he could "swim" ashore although he had a broken back. I sent Billy a copy of a report on what happened to all the crew after the war. Lowell died in 1981 at the age of 56. With Billy's death, all the crew are now deceased.I talked and communicated with Billy several times, the last in 2006. At that time, he asked me about my relationship to Christ and shared his testimony. I never met him in this life but I expect to see him in Heaven.

What an exciting life! What an exciting new life with his Lord and those who have been eagerly awaiting his transition to the other side! I regret never having listened to his flying experiences..wow...incredible story and what a list of aircraft he flew! I would have especially liked to hear his P-51 Mustang and F-4 stories!! I will be praying for you family members during your time of great loss.
