Patricia, I am so, so sorry. Bill Speer called me last evening.

I love Atlanta because Dr. White introduced me to her properly. That was over 30 years ago as a student at Emory. When I had the chance in the early 90s, I dug in my heels in Atlanta's Old Fourth Ward...and I never left. From the hidden nooks and crannies of Emory to Reynoldstown, Cabbagetown, Druid Hills, Inman Park...every neighborhood actually, he made Atlanta come alive in my eyes in a way that made me forever grateful. I have an appreciation for local politics, history and urbanism that was born in his classroom. I'll miss running into him around town. I extend my condolences to his family and friends.

I'm so sorry to hear this sad news, but so grateful to have known Dana. My life is better for his friendship. I'm thinking of you, Patricia, during this very difficult time.

I had the privilege of directing Dana in the documentary series, "Making of Modern Atlanta." Not that he needed much direction, mostly I stayed out of his way and let his exuberance and talent shine through. Dana was extraordinary in so many ways, an impressive scholar, a charming raconteur, a caring friend and mentor, and just an all around great guy. My deepest sympathies to Patricia and all who knew and loved him.
