Don Logana Obituary

Don Logana, morning news anchor and investigative reporter at WTOC-TV in Savannah, was killed in a car crash Sunday, Nov. 20.

Logana had worked at WTOC 11 for more than a decade and started anchoring the morning news with Cyreia Sandlin after Mike Manhatton lost his battle with cancer in 2014.

Logana began his TV news career in his hometown of Syracuse, New York, at WIXT-TV. He started as an intern and became a producer and reporter before moving to Watertown, New York, to become reporter and anchor at WWTI-TV.

WTOC 11 News Director Scott Galloway said the newsroom has taken a terrible hit.

"Don was a great guy and such a big part of WTOC and our newsroom family, his loss has left us with a huge void that will be tough to fill," Galloway said.

Logana received multiple awards and honors, the station said in a written statement .

"Most recently, Don was voted Best Local TV News Anchor 2016 by Connect Savannah," the station said.

The Logana's Family when I was watching the WTOC news Monday 6pm after work and heard about Don's death I literally cried because I couldn't believe what I heard about what happen. Watching WTOC NEWS is favorite news especially watching Mike Dave and Don at 4am every morning Monday thru Friday.Them three seems to me are very good friends. I feel I loss a friend who made WTOC news fun and meaningful to keep watching. WTOC news will never be the same without him its almost like not want to watch the WTOC News. What have really helping me is really helping me is reading the Biable. The scriptures that is comforting and I hope that the Logana's family when able and time is good to read the BIble individual and as a family for spiritual strength. The Bible scriptures 2Corinthians1:3,4;John 5:28,29,Psalm 65:2; Job 14:14;Revelation 21:3-5

Its such a painful experiance when someone we love dies so suddenly. It shocks you to the core and its hard to process the reality of what has happened. The Low Country is in deep mourning having lost such an amazing man who was loved and adored by the entire community. He will always be a part of us, and forever a Legacy in this world. My condolences to the Logana Family, may you all find peace. Don is with God.

November 23, 2016

To the Logana Family. I don't know that you can ever imagine the impact Don had on the Savannah and the entire Coastal Empire and Low Country. His compassion and courage were amazing. His family was so important to him and we enjoyed watching Sammi Jo and Jordan as they grew. My mornings are a little emptier as I have woken up with him for the last few years. Don was a constant. A constant smile, a constant encourager, and a constant presence. My prayer is for peace. I pray that Sammi Jo and Jordan have enough reminders of their Uncle Don and how much he loved them. He will NEVER be forgotten. God bless you all through this difficult time.

Donald aka D.D., taken too early. Although your amazing journey has ended here, I know that you succeeded in achieving what God intended for you here on earth. He has called you back to him to help someone/others somewhere beyond our reach, to do what you did here; changing people's lives for the better. I pray for your mom and dad, who did an amazing job of making you the man you became. I know they are proud. Now your their angel who will guide them and help them through this very difficult time. We only watch WTOC in Savannah though we live at Shellman Bluff. The news and weather folks feel like family to us beginning with Sonny Dixon and Jody Chapin in 1985.
We were so saddened when Mike Manhattan died from cancer and watched each tribute to him and his family.
Don Logana is no exception and we are grieving that this fun and witty man can no longer be with us.
Please know, Don, as you receive those well earned angel wings that our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. May the Lord's healing hands be with you all!

Don, I always enjoyed your broadcasts. You had a way about you that drew me right into whatever you were discussing. It was obvious to me that you enjoyed your job, that you genuinely cared about the City of Savannah and the surrounding areas, the people and the communities. Always looking out for the little guy, the animals, and the elderly. You somehow made each and every one of us feel like you were our best friend. My thoughts and prayers go out to all who knew and loved you, your family at WTOC, and especially to your precious niece and nephew. Your absence will be deeply felt. I pray that all who mourn you now will let the many memories they have of you bring them some peace and comfort, and hopefully some smiles, as they face the difficult days ahead.

This is a note about Don to his many friends and family members.

I got to know Don last year at the Larry Peterson Memorial Award for Investigative Journalism workshop. (I'm the founder of the award.) Investigative journalist Don was a member of our panel. And he did a great job explaining the challenges an investigative journalist faces. I last saw him when I was being interviewed on WTOC's mid-morning show about my late husband's new book "Deadly Dust The Imperial Sugar Inferno" about corporate negligence in the 2008 disaster near Savannah. Don didn't interview me but he came up to me after the taping and we talked a while. I will miss his investigative reporting as well as his enthusiasm for life.
Our community just lost a wonderful man. I send prayers to his many friends and family members.
