I spent my last week as a government employee working with Dan on a project to simplify and standardize government-ese language. He was a delight and I loved him from the first time I ever saw him in a class I taught in New Carrollton. He bought me a huge bottle of Bailey's Irish Creme for my retirement. I'll lift a glass to him tonight. God bless John and all of Dan's family. Jackie Antweiler, Evergreen, Colorado
I would like to thank all of you for the kind and beautiful messages you have sent to the Ahern Family. John and the Ahern Family,
Daniel was one of a kind. He always had a smile on his face and gave the best hugs. He will be missed by all. May your memories bring you peace. I will never forget Daniel.
I was just reading the Syracuse newspaper online and was so saddened to see that Dan had passed away. I lived in the neigborhood of the Ahern's, back in the early 60's, when we were "teenagers". I remember Dan and Pat, specifically. My heart goes out to the Ahern family. I'm sorry you lost a good man at such a young age.
Dear Pat and family,
May knowing you're in the hearts and thoughts of others help you and yours
through this time of sorrow.

It's difficult today to see beyond the sorrow, but looking back in memory may help comfort you tomorrow. My thoughts and prayers are with Fr. Ahern and the family at this time.
To John and all of the Ahern clan, Dan and I worked together for several years in Atlanta and he helped me get settled relocating from Boston. Always a smile, always a kind word, always a friend. We'll remember Dan for all of his restaurant recommendations and travel tips.

Danny and I went to sixth grade together at the old St. Joseph's School, part of the old St. Joseph's German Church on Seymour Street on Syracuse's West end. His brother Pat was our classmate in that four-room schoolhouse, where one nun taught two grades simultaneously. I haven't seen him in 52 years, but I remember him well and fondly. He was a fine, well behaved young man and a good student whom the nuns were delighted to have in their presence. He's departed this earth far, far too soon. He, I'm sure, will always remain in the thoughts of those who knew him.

My sorrow to the Ahern familys
I had the distinct pleasure of working side-by-side with Dan for over 5 years. Dan was a lovable man, who laughed alot and made those around him laugh as well. I think of him always and I will never ever forget Dan. I will love Dan always!
I'm very sorry for your loss. You and your family will be in my prayers.
Dan will be missed. He was always willing to take me to dinner and even a showing while visiting Atlanta. I taught with him several times. He was a fun, loving person. From a fellow IRS employee and SGML instructor.
It was a pleasure to know Dan as his doctor. He was always full of life and enthusiasm with an infectious optimism despite his diagnosis of cancer.
I send my deepest sympathy to his family and loved ones.
So sorry for your loss; Dan was a great person.
You could always count on Dan to speak his mind. He will be missed. May his family and friends find comfort in knowing he is at peace.
Dan and I worked together at the IRS. He had a great sense of humor and always seemed to make me laugh. I probably did not know Dan as well as others but I will miss him. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.

Dan will be greatly missed. He was a kind caring person who always thought of others first. My deepest sympathy to John, friends and family.
Dan will be missed but more important, he will always be remembered by his IRS Family as a very kind person that made a difference.
Dan readily welcomed me as part of his lunch group. I enjoyed the stories of his travels. I'll miss his smile and enthusiasm. I am indeed pleased to be among the many whose lives Dan touched. My sympathy goes out to John, Dan's family and many friends.
As the days and weeks pass, and as you return to life's routine, may you continue to feel comforted by the love and support of family and friends.
What a lovely man and co-worker. He will be missed.
Uncle Dan, we loved you so much. I can't imagine what your absence will be like. I am so content knowing you are welcomed in your new life by your parents, siblings and friends.
May you find comfort and peace in the Lord during your time of bereavement. Dan's vibrant personality will be greatly missed.
Dan, here's to you. A piece of one of my favorite songs...When my way grows drear
Precious Lord, linger near. When my life is almost gone, hear my cry, hear my call, take my hand lest I fall. Take my hand, precious Lord and lead me home.
Dan thanks for always having a warm smile on our face and a kind word upon your lips. You will be missed in this realm, but I know you're watching over us.
Dan was one of the sweetest people I knew. He always thought of my daughter on his trips and brought her a gift when returning. He will be greatly missed, but only for a little while. (Revelation 21:3&4)
Dan has been such a wonderful friend and co-worker for over 20 years. He could always make me laugh! For instance, in the early 90s, we often had to travel together for work. On one trip to Miami, he referred to the ocean in a very funny and dramatic way, calling it "the vast Atlantic". Ever since that day, I always refer to it the same way, and I always think of him. It's hard on us that Dan is gone from our sight, but he's now in the sight of others who welcome him. I send hugs to John and to all of Dan's family and friends at this sad time.
Here's wishing Dan fair winds and following seas on his last cruise home.
It's always heart-breaking to lose a loved one, yet comforting to know that they do not suffer anymore.(Ecclesiastes 9:5)
One of the sweetest souls on earth - now resides in heaven.
A great friend and team leader. I will always cherish the fun times we shared as fellow "Buffalo Chips" It was 30 years ago I met Dan. He and John were my sponsors for membership into the AVS Club
Dan,you were not only a co-worker but a great friend. I will miss your smile and your presence at our annual ICPP Conference. You will be missed. May you rest in peace.
John, friends and family, my sincere condolences in the passing of Dan. Time and distance have not faded my found memories of the Buffalo Chips and yearly correspondences. The great gift of friends, pets and family will ease your loss.
My thoughts and prayers are with you in your time of grief. May your memories bring you comfort.
