Eddie has played gigs in Maine for many years. However, I only saw him perform once. He played in Farmington, Maine at my good friend Nancy's 60th birthday party. He was an incredible musician as well as an incredibly nice guy. During a 'break' I got to speak with him for several minutes. What a privilege that was for me! They just don't make men like that anymore! Play on, Eddie, play on!!
March 10, 2011
I first met Eddie back in 1969 during my initial trip to the South... may have been responsible for him taking up music again and not opening a car repair place! Our relationship lasted until that night on the highway on the 28th. Eddie was not only an artist I recorded and encouraged over the decades, but he was my friend (and they are in short supply).

Over the decades, I'd stay with him at his place, he stayed with me at mine up North. I last saw him about five years ago in Melbourne (I now live in Australia) and we picked up where we last left off.

A major, if only partially successful financially, musician, Eddie Kirkland made folks' lives a better place for his being there. We will all miss him, not just me, or my family, but all who read this. Vale to the road warrior... he was loved.

My band was fortunate enough to open for Eddie at The Iroquois in Roanoke, VA around 1990. We had some time during set up to sit at the bar with and talk. I being the guitar player in a 3 pc. told Eddie I was fairly nervous about the show. His advice to me was "play what you feel, play what you feel". I still think about him saying those words whenever anxious about performing. His show that night was amazing. I later saw him mentioned in the liner notes of Jimi Hendrix's album "Blues" as young Jimi was introduced to him in GA. I'm so sorry to hear of his accident. He will be greatly missed!

Eddie, My friend and brother. Was good to play with you, We really tore them up when we did it. It is very sad for me to hear about your passing into the next life, I was just thinking about you yesterday. Bruce Hensal called me today. Then I read this. Rest well and in peace as I know you will. I enjoyed playing with you because it was real, very few left that can get that real with the Blues.

I first saw Eddie perform at the Downhome Blues Festival in Camden, SC, several years ago. What a genuine, inspiring talent. Even in his 80s, sharing his craft, electrifying the crowd, his passion for the music obvious. He lived stronger than most men half his age. I wish his family blessings in their sorrow. RIP, Eddie.

It was an honor to have met Eddie. To me he just had to be "The hardest working gentleman in show business". I am deeply saddened by his passing.

The article in the Macon paper said it all in Eddie's quote, "Only one man's going to retire me." As I point up to the sky, I know he is looking down on us & singing praises. He is at home. We will be reunited with him one day there in heaven.
March 02, 2011

Eddie's blues will live on forever...RIP Mr. Kirkland!
March 01, 2011
I came to know Eddie late; we met at a wonderful little Bible Study where he contributed much with his quiet presence and the wisdom that comes from God, not man. I later had the privilege of being invited by Gary Montgomery to attend a "Tribute to Eddie Kirkland" where he was honored by the City of Macon and others - he performed that night with incredible energy and talent - and who would have believed that he was 87 years old!! Our loss is heaven's gain, and he is now resting with the saints. Those who believe will see Eddie again in a better place. Until then, memories of a unique person of many talents, a humble man who didn't boast but gave his all, will sustain those who love him. May God's loving mercy comfort his wife and family and those who loved him in their grief and loss.
March 01, 2011
MAY YOU REST IN PEACE MR.EDDIE GUITAR KIRKLAND..TAKE YOUR REST.
March 01, 2011
Mr. Eddie was a genuinely nice man. He would always leave everyone at the Waffle House with a smile. I loved just talking with him about his life. He explained how he came to be here in Macon and in this country. I loved hearing about his life and all the people that he knew and how they met.
This morning when I opened my paper to read it and saw that this genuine soul had departed this life, I shed a tear for him and for myself. I know that he is an ANGEL in Heaven.
God bless and my sympathies go out to his family and everyone that loved him.
I'll miss our talks Mr. Eddie and I will always treasure the stories that we shared.
March 01, 2011
I saw Mr Kirkland in Doylestown, Pa., and it was just like one would imagine seeing that old Blues-NO Jazz sound when it filled the hot southern evening air back in the day. Memorable evening, feel so very fortunate to have seen him. John;
