Judge Shoenthal wa a very great man. He was my attorney 23yrs ago and meet him again in juvenile court with my son 8yrs ago. It was alway a pleasure seeing this him. I feel a little more safe with him whom I consider an God sent angle.?
Judge Shoenthal was such an honorable man. My deepest sympathy and prayers go to his family and this community.
My son and I was having bad problems he is 14. When the police picked him up and took him to Dekalb we got Judge Shoenthal. He was very kind but firm about my son doing well and becoming a better person to me and at school. He wanted him to be better to himself..not to be short changed in life. It breaks my heart to know such a good man is gone. I was standing outside of his courtroom with my son there was mother who was sure her child would not be coming out with her. She was preparing her son for the worst..but they came out together she yelled to me he gave him another chance. He never wanted the kids to go to YDC....he say you dont belong there. I was so happy to be going back with such good news about my son....he stopped skipping school.....leaving the house w/o permission...fighting..smoking weed OMG. I knew he would be so proud to see the change in him. I just found out when they told us we would be going to another Judge it broke my heart that someone so wonderful is gone. We will all miss him greatly. Mrs. Shoenthal to you and your daughters I am so sorry for your loss..and to the whole community of Dekalb Cty.
Dear Fran, Rachel and Rebecca,
I am so blessed to have met you all and to have been Elliott's secretary in Juvenile Court. He never entered the office without a smile on his face. He never stopped helping people. Often times he'd receive calls from previous clients asking for help (not knowing he was a Judge now) and he'd take the time to speak to the ones who were worthy of his personal response or he'd take time to jot down a referral, write an answer to their questions, and have me return the call. Of course, they wanted to hear his gentle voice, but I did the best I could to assure them that he asked me to call for him. When my brother and his fiancée wanted to get married, he was kind enough to perform the ceremony, with Deputy Thomas, Paul, and me as witnesses. When he was sworn in as Juvenile Court Judge, I remember you pulling me to the side and saying, "Elliott is the same and he will not change". You were absolutely correct. He smiled every day and treated everyone with respect. If I had not already retired in June of this year, I am certain I would now. You will be in our prayers. We will cherish the memories forever.
Just learned of Elliot's death. You are in our prayers. He was such a kind, compassionate person. May you take comfort in knowing how much he was respected and loved.
I interned with Elliott in the Dekalb Solicitor's Office. He gave me my first jury win, taught me care and compassion and to always take the high road. I pass his lessons forward so his spirit lives on. Heartfelt sympathies to Fran and family.
As the days and weeks pass, and as you return to life's routine, may you continue to feel comforted by the love and support of family and friends.
A remarkable judge but even more remarkable father and husband.
I remember monitoring Judge Shoenthal courtroom from the juvenile control-room and he always was very respectful person and judge. My condolences to his family. He will be missed.

It is with a heavy heart that I write this message. I had the pleasure of working with Judge Shoenthal back at the turn of last decade when he replaced one of the judges at Doraville Municipal Court and I had just obtained my Interpreter's license. We would cross paths once again when I began working at DeKalb Juvenile Court. As often as I was in his courtroom, I thought he might get a little tired of seeing my face all the time. Not at all, actually. 'Hello Mr. Zapata', he would say. Always had a smile. Always took his time with each case, making sure everybody understood what was going on. He never waivered. He never seemed tired of his job, no matter what. I'll never forget him. May God bless the Shoenthal family.
As the days and weeks pass, and as you return to life's routine, may you continue to feel comforted by the love and support of family and friends.
I am so sad to hear the news about your father. I know how important your family unit is to all of you. Please know that my thoughts and prayers go out to you. If you need anything please don't hesitate to call.
I am so sad to hear the news. I have missed you this year. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. If you need anything please feel free to call. I am only a text away. Sturken

My thoughts and prayers go out to the Shoenthal family for strength in this sad time. Judge Shoenthal was one of the first people I met in court as a new attorney in 1998. I will always remember him as the Judge with a smile and a kind word of encouragement. I am thankful to have known him. May he rest in peace.
His warm inviting smile and joyful attitude will indeed be missed. Prayers of strength to the family.

I am heartbroken by this news. My thoughts and love are with you and your girls.
My heartfelt condolences go to Judge Shoenthal's family. I met him many years ago as a new assistant solicitor general. He was so kind and took the time to help new attorneys, clients and the judicial system as a whole. I am so glad to have known him.
A very nice person, a fair and firm judge. We will truly miss you.
I have never met a nicer person or gentler soul than Elliott. I am so sorry for your loss.
Please accept my deepest sympathies.
Heaven is a little brighter and earth is a little darker. May Fran and her family find comfort, peace and be showered with God's blessings.
Elliott was always so pleasant and professional in and out of court. He certainly knew how to treat people and allowed them to have their day in court. I truly believe that everyone who left his courtroom, whether they were attorneys or parties, felt they had been treated with respect. The ability to accomplish that is a real gift. He will be missed as a judge, and I will miss him as a friend. My thoughts are with you and your family.
My deepest and heartfelt condolences to the Shoenthal family...
My thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. He was truly a wonderful man. I enjoyed my time working with him. Remember the good times and cherish them.
Donna Bryant-Stockbridge, GA
Sending condolences to the family. Judge Shoenthal will be truly missed.
Everyone must leave something behind when he dies, my grandfather said. A child or a book or a painting or a house or a wall built or a pair of shoes made. Or a garden planted. Something your hand touched some way so your soul has somewhere to go when you die, and when people look at that tree or that flower you planted, you're there.
It doesn't matter what you do, he said, so long as you change something from the way it was before you touched it into something that's like you after you take your hands away. The difference between the man who just cuts lawns and a real gardener is in the touching, he said. The lawn-cutter might just as well not have been there at all; the gardener will be there a lifetime.
Thank you for all you represented on a daily basis to the attorneys, parents and children.
Fran, we are so sorry to hear of your loss. We saw Elliott recently at a police retiree function and enjoyed talking with him about old times and checking on you. Please know you are in our thoughts and prayers and if we can do anything for you or your family please let us know. He was one of the last "good guys" and will be missed by many.
