Coach Smith was one of my favorite people at Southwest. I played soccer under him for all four years of my high school career and his positive attitude and caring nature were just what I needed on some rough days. He always described himself as our "school dad" and looked out for us as if we were his own daughters. I am truly blessed to have know him. God bless his family.

To The Family of George Ainsley,
My heart and prayers go out to you and yours. May the God of comfort continue to be with you.

I have worked with George for many years through both Sexton Woods and Eagle Woods Academy. What has always been clear is that George was a very kind man, caring and loving, and he was ALWAYS willing to give any kid a chance to succeed, even some of the most unlikely candidates. George had a very gentle nature and was just a good person, through and through. He was also a loving family man and spoke proudly of his own children and his wife. He will be missed, and I pray for your family in this very difficult time. It was a privlege to know George.

I'm so sorry for your loss and may family and friends of Mr. Smith find comfort in Gods inspired word the Bible (2 Timothy 3:16).

It is impossible to find words that can console or offer a solace at this very sad time but we must reflect on the positive way in which George touched our lives and cherish the many fond memories we have of him.

George was very close to my family during our formative years in New Jersey and although distance; in my case the Atlantic Ocean has separated us, we never lost the emotional link that bonded us so many years ago. If it is possible to have a brother that has no biological connection to you, then George was my brother. The legacy that he leaves will live on through his wife, his children and those of us who were fortunate enough to have known him.
July 27, 2013
He sounded like a really great
guy .

I would like to extend my heartfelt condolences to your family. Like your family, we just recenlty lost my brother-in-law, George "Nick" Ely who was also a staff member in the special education department at SWD. Although I did not know your husband and father, George, from reading the various post, it is obvious that he and George Ely were men of integrity, who cared about the well-being and education of children. Like my sister, nieces, and family, I know your hearts are hurting, but I will lift you all up in prayer daily. In time, I know that God will bring peace and comfort to all of our souls. May your husband and father rest in peace in the loving arms of a Mighty God.

It was an absolute pleasure to work with Mr. Smith! He always had my back. If ever there was any kind of rochous in my room he was there. He did an amazingly outstanding job with the students that he worked with. I am truly gonna miss him.
July 26, 2013
I had the pleasure of working with George Smith as a teacher, assistant principal, and principal at Southwest DeKalb High. What an intelligent, generous, wonderful man with a loving and gentle spirit! Mr. Smith worked with some of the most challenging students, but he was able to manage them effortlessly. He earned the respect, love and admiration of the entire faculty, staff and student body and will be profoundly missed! God bless the entire Smith family! He loved you all so much. I know that you are stunned and overwhelmed by his passing, but know that he will be watching over you until you all meet again. This separation is only temporary!

"Sometimes, when one person is missing, the whole world seems depopulated." - Alphonse De Lamartine
The loss of George certainly feels as if the world has been depopulated. He did far more good than one man could in twice the years allowed. George was a dear friend, dedicated and caring teacher, wise colleague, and loving husband and father. His love of the "beautiful game" was a passion we shared and enjoyed discussing. He was truly one of the best people I have ever known. Angela, Mariel, Alayna and Mason, he spoke of you often at work and with great love and pride. I hope the knowledge that your husband and father poured himself into serving others through teaching, mentoring and coaching brings you some measure of comfort. George is much beloved and greatly missed.

The words to express my sorrow are very hard to find. Angie, Alayna, Mariel, Mason and the entire family, I am sorry for our loss. We will miss you Nephew.

To the Smith family:
Find joy in knowing that Coach Smith's life was one well-lived. As a soccer parent, I know that he touched so many of the girls' lives. He surely impacted my daughter life in such a positive way. Well done Coach, rest for the final game has been won!
Deepest sympathy,
