I will miss the unique manner in which Capt. Herb would transition to a fellow reporter..."Over to you Kim McCartheeeee." I am quite certain that Capt. Herb has the #1 aerial view of Atlanta traffic from way up there in Heaven. He is and will be missed by many. Stan Crais, Dahlonega, GA

Fue mi amigo todos los dias, cuando lo escuchaba en el radio. Siempre le ponia atencion para mejorar mi Ingles, el era mi maestro en pronunciar algunas palabras. Que Dios lo bendiga hoy y siempre.
Never met you,but I know "that voice" and have missed it soo much this week, cried for a week, you are missed !!! Traffic reports will never be the same....rest in peace
Ever since I learned of Herb's passing, I've spent a good deal of time reading and listening to what those who knew him had to say about the way he lived his life. As a longtime WSB listener, I had an inkling of what a great guy the Captain was before he passed. Since then, I have gained an even better understanding of what it means to serve others and be a good friend. Captain Herb has inspired me to resolve be a better person. Hugs, laughs and smiles will mean more to me now. Thank you for that, Captain. And I thank your friends and loved ones for sharing your story with us.
Every morning, every afternoon, every time I got in the car. Cap'n Herb was there. I never met him and yet I recognized his voice immediately and was so grateful for his guidance through all the perils of Atlanta traffic. Thank you to WSB for broadcasting his memorial service. I loved hearing stories about the kind of man he was. We love you Cap'n Herb. We miss you. I will hold your wife Karen, your colleagues and friends in my prayers… may perpetual light shine upon you, may you rest in peace … and may the angels sing you into heaven.
Thanks for all you did for those around you. Not many leave a legacy that even shocks his friends and family!

Thank you for loaning your husband and daddy to the public for so many years. You all are super to not be angry when he was gone so much in helping. God bless you and please know how much Capt. Herb is missed and you are loved.
I had the privilege of working with Cap'n Herb for a couple of years. He was the kind of guy you wanted to do your best for. Definitely an inspiration for me, but there will never be another like him. He'll be sorely missed. God bless Karen and all of Herb's family and friends.
My sympathies go out to Captain Herb's family, friends and co-workers, who seem to have may as well been family. I grew up hearing his voice every morning on the way to school, and as an adult on my way to and from work each day. He is one of those folks that I'll always associate with the city of Atlanta and he is missed!
Captain Herb added a little lightheartedness to the serious subject of Atlanta traffic and kept us all informed. We'll miss his voice and humor. And Christmas won't be the same. He was one of the good ones.
My dear friend Herb, I got to met him and his wonderful wife Karen many times through our great mutual friend butch lowery! He was the loveliest, fun man , we loved his company, we will miss him and our prayers and thoughts are with Karen, his family and friends, god bless Herb

A Loyal Viewer and Listener
My husband worked in Atlanta from 2000 to 2010. He traveled from South Carolina to Atlanta daily. We moved to Atlanta in 2006 and I listened to him daily. In 2007 we started driving a truck and don't come through Atlanta much. But I can't imagine the day to day drive without him. He was a part of everyday day just like getting ready for work was. My thoughts and prayers to the family. Until we met again Capt. Herb.
In some ways, being a WSB traffic reporter may seem like long hours on a job that just goes on & on with little thanks... But on an average day in Atlanta, you may save half a million people half an hour... What's that worth??? Well 250,000 hours is three cumulative LIFETIMES saved from being lost in a traffic jam... EVERY business day. Congratulations for being such a help and service to Atlanta ... We will be listening next week' as you lead the way... And when you go home tired at the end of the day, remember three lifetimes of thanks with your pay.
In some ways Captain Herb was Atlanta's Good Shepard for traffic. His voice & talents showed us which way to drive, day to day... and for many who knew Herb, his example of cheerful service showed a way to live as well.
"So sorry for your loss may you be strong and have faith that your loved one is in God's memory.
I have listened faithfully since 1992 to my dear friend Capt. Herb which is when I moved to Atlanta. He became Atlanta to me guiding my every move as I learned my way around my new home. In doing that, he became a big piece of my home. Thank Capt. For everything. Thank you Emory family for sharing him with us. Godspeed my dear friend. You are so missed.
Capt Herb you will be missed by everyone In metro Atlanta, I was at a training session a few years ago at the HERO Hq and the instructor asked where do we get great traffic info from and the whole class said Capt Herb who else, never be another one like him..Rip capt herb you will be missed
Rest in Peace My dear fellow We will all miss you being on the Air and making us all get home safe in this great traffic of ours in the Atlanta,Ga area?
I started listening to AM 750 early 2001 and always enjoyed the traffic team and hearing Captain Herb especially if I was stuck in the traffic or early enough to avoid it. I'm sure he enjoys the streets of gold better than ours of asphalt. Will be missed.
We're going to miss you Captain Herb. Rest In Peace !
Captain Herb was a bright light who cared more about helping others than doing things for himself. I was sadden to hear about the passing of Capt. Herb. I had never met him but enjoyed hearing him talk on the radio doing his traffic reports. He helped me to navagate Atlanta traffic so that I would always arrive safely to places I was going. I will miss hearing him on the radio. I pray for his family that God will give them strength to make it thru this difficult time. God Bless You All!
Capt. Herb was a great person and he will be missed every time you turn your radio to wsb you will be waiting for his voice no one will ever fill his shoes. If tears could build a stairway, And memories a lane, I'd walk right up to Heaven And bring you home again.
I miss you so much. You were always my kind of "Santa."
Capt. Herb was always on the radio. I started to wonder if he lived at WSB. I listened to him every morning on my way to work. He and his family are in our thoughts and prayers. He was a bright shinning light.
Captain Herb could always make you laugh as he got us through traffic. He will be missed. May God be with his family during this time of sorrow
Just want to say how so sorry about Capt. Herb Emory. Know he's in a better place. No more nights, no more pain, no more tears, never crying again. Knowing he'll be there will make it easier for his family to go home. Just look for him, for he will be there too. Thoughts & prayers R with the family. God bless them all. God will get them thru this. God is good. There will never ever be, another capt. Herb Emory. He's Ireplaceable. He was an original One of a kind. Thank God for people like him. God bless you all. Thanks Capt. Herb Emory for all you've done. Mary & Family.
Angles do fly May peace be with out
I have never cried so much, for someone I never knew personally, than I have this past week.
RIP Captain Herb. Atlanta traffic will never be the same.
Oh no my aching heart. We used to drink beer while listening to the morning show and me and friends would have a drink every time he said "OKAY?" Losing Keith McCallum was tough but this is parallel with losing Munson. I look forward to the Captain Herb Toys For Tots drive this year. Prayers to his family and the WSB TTT.
Atlanta will always remember you Capt. Herb. You will be greatly missed.
Captain Herb, I am like thousands of people in the Atlanta Metropolitan area in that I never met you, but it seems like I did. I relied on your traffic reports each and everyday both mornings and evenings for years to get me around I-285 from Lithonia to Sandy Springs. When ever I heard your signature comment “Oh my aching toe” I knew there was a traffic problem and I listen very closely for the location.
I will be forever grateful for what you done for the motorist in the Atlanta area. May the Peace of Christ be with you.
When I lived in Atlanta, I listened and depended on Captain Herb and his team give the traffic reports. They always did a wonderful job. I will never forget "that voice". He will be missed by many.
My condolences to Capt. Herb's family. I'm going to miss his familiar voice doing the traffic reports. May God give you the strength to endure this difficult time (Isaiah 57:15). My thoughts and prayers are with you.
We will miss you Captain Herb. How will we ever get around Atlanta without you! You were our eye in the sky and now you are with the Angels in Heaven!
Thoughts and Prayers are with you and your Family!
Atlanta will never be the same without the wonderful Captain Herb Emory. Even though my commute to work didn't include getting on the major roads or interstates, I always had to listen to see what might be impacting the city. Any time our relatives came from out of town, we would always tell them to listen to WSB AM on the way in for Captain Herb's traffic report so they could make adjustments in their routes if needed. I also loved the NASCAR shows and the children calling on Christmas Eve to talk to Santa. What an amazing man who did so much for so many! Our thoughts and prayers to the entire Emory family. May you feel God's comforting arms around you each day. Thank you for sharing Herb with us. God bless you.
Capt Herb - When I moved to Georgia and got a job in Atlanta, my family said as I started out on my 48 mile trip into town, turn on WSB radio and pay attention to Capt Herb, you'll do fine. It has now been 10 years of safe travels thanks to you and your awesome team. Rest in Peace - friend you were always a guardian in the sky - Traffic Trooper Aunt Bea
Atlanta traffic will never be the same. God be with the Emory family.
I never had the honor of meeting Capt. Herb; but I will never forget him. Deepest sympathies to his entire family.
God bless you all.
I miss listening to you on the radio Captain Herb. My thoughts go out to you and your family.

Capt,mn Herb I guess you were needed else where to report on the Heavenly Highway's and Bi-ways. We sure are going to miss you here in this realm.
RIP Captain,,,you are surely missed by all who have ever known you or looked forward to your broadcast each morning,,,,,
Although I never met Captain in person, we carpooled together everyday. I often laughed as he described the mess that is Atlanta morning rush hour. He truly put a smile on our faces and a song in our hearts.
Thank You Captain Herb for all these years of your shining example of a man's man. You loved God, and it showed, you loved your family and people, and it showed, you loved your work, and it showed. What an outstanding example of a life well lived. We will always have great memories of you. I can only imagine the rewards you must be enjoying now. Today we mourn your loss, but you made it! Thank you Captain for showing us how its done. May God continue to bless the Emory family.

My heart breaks for you, Karen, losing Herb so suddenly. I pray for God's comfort & peace for you & Herb's mom especially & all of those who knew & loved him! God bless!

Capt.Herb I live in Mobile,Al but I listen to you every morning on the radio.I feel like I have lost a friend. I miss your voice every morn. R I P.
I miss him so much and truly loved listening to him on the radio. My favorite thing was when he played Santa Claus at Christmas to the children that called in.
We will miss you and your voice every morning and afternoon. You were like a friend in the car to us. We will miss seeing you at the Toys for Tots BBQ every year. You have always been there for us. Job well done my friend, now go take your well deserved rest.
I didn't even know Capt. Herb, but when I heard of his passing I was so very sad...for all of us.
Praying for his family and friends. God has a precious angel in heaven who will be a great traffic director up there!
we will miss you capt, gods speed sir,
I'm really going to miss the Captain, his voice & especially the way he humorously dissected the traffic. I didn't know him personally but seeing him on TV & hearing him all the time, I spiritually knew him. He was a pillar to the community & can not be replaced. My heart aches. I really hate I never got to meet him. He will be thoroughly missed.
Capt. Herb, Atlanta will NEVER be quite the same without you being up in the chopper guiding us. "Oh my aching toe", we all miss you so much!
you are greatly missed Capt. Herb, will miss your voice. Thank you for all you did, prayers for the family and friends.
Will miss the smile in his voice on the radio. My prayers are with your family.
RIP Captain. Your voice from the sky will be sorely missed.
What a fine man and great role model for our young men. Herb will be missed by so many. The tributes all week from his WSB co-workers have touched my heart. I hope Herb's family will be comforted knowing how much he was loved by the entire community.
Been listening to you forever. God Bless.
We drove down from Saint Louis MO to attend the public memorial on Saturday
I will miss listening to this wonderful man every morning! May his family feel God's love and peace during this difficult time.
will miss him..I have listened to WSB for 20 years...seems like he was always there...prayers for the family and friends
When I think of the greatest Atlanta symbols and icons, I think of Peachtree Street, The Big Chicken, Stone Mountain, The Hooch, The Fox Theatre, and the legendary Captain Herb Emory. For all of my 28 years as an Atlanta native, Atlanta, GA will have a void the size of I-285 that can never be completely made whole. RIP to a true Southern gentleman
I wouldn't get out of bed until I heard your cheery voice on Channel 2 news. I would sit straight up and say "Good Morning Captain Herb!" Then listen to you in the car on the way to work. Then again on my way home. Whenever I was stuck in inexplicable traffic I always knew who to turn to for information. Thank you for all that you have done for my fellow ATLiens. Thank you to your wife and family for sharing this time with all who loved you. Thank you WSB for your wonderful tributes and the memorial service.
Listening to WSB just won't be the same without that wonderful voice helping us all navigate Atlanta's traffic tribulations. My heartfelt prayers go out to your family, friends and your WSB family. Thank you, Captain Herb.
It's hard to put into words what you've meant to me Capt. Herb - it literally shattered me to hear that you had passed. I guess what I'll miss most is the warmth of your voice, be it telling us about a traffic problem or playing Santa for the kids during your Toys for Tots drives. You assembled the finest traffic team on the planet and your traffic legacy will live on through them. Thanks for all you did for so many of us. Blue skies and God speed Captain Herb!
CAPTIAN HERB WAS A HERO & GOOD GUY! WE WILL MISS YOU!! (I'M YOUR CAPTIAN)http://youtu.be/TzA9ii4KWjo RIP CAPTIAN HERB YOU WERE THE BEST!
Closer to home
It was a tough week in Atlanta traffic without Captain Herb.I really miss his sense of humor and rapid-fire descriptions of the latest jams.He also promoted a feeling that "we're all in this together." I guess we thought he was always going to be there, so it's a reminder that every day is a gift - there are no guarantees.
just back in town to hear the new about Capt Herb I will miss his voice on my radio on the way into work and then again on the way home....God bless the Emory family
You are sorely missed already. Keep watch over Atlanta from your heavenly sky coptor. Rest in peace, Capt. Herb.
Capt Herb, You were the HERO of the heros, The Head Trouper of the Traffic Troupers, The head officer of the traffic officers and the chief "Know It All" when traffic came to a halt. Without you we would still be sitting in traffic. Thank you Capt. Herb Emory for the Love of your job that made our job easier. YOU WILL BE MISSED. KEN FROM CONYERS
It's been such a long week, but such a sweet time of remembering Capt. Herb's heart & service. Praying continued comfort, peace, & joy for the Emory family. It's really just for a moment that we'll be apart. Grace to you all.
Devistated...just can't process this, been dialing in and listening to his traffic reports since I was youngun... No telling how many lives this Man Saved in Metro Atlanta during his 43 yrs of Service to his Fellow Man! Kind Sir "Captain Herb Emory" You will be Missed but Never Forgotten!
Atlanta radio will not be the same without the familiar voice of Capt. Herb.

RIP Sir !
He will be sooo missed!!!! RIP
May the Emory family find some solace in the love expressed. I sent a get well email when he had his heart attack a few years ago and was soo surprised when he later emailed me back. A very kind and thoughtful person, to the very sad end. You are missed already.
I really miss his voice in the mornings, our rides to work will never be the same.. RIP Sir. I know you will always be our Eye in the Sky here in Ga. May God comfort his family during this time of grief.
It's strange not hearing you in the morning. You were so much more than a traffic guy, and you are missed. Thank you for all your years of service.
I've been listening to WSB radio every weekday morning for the last ten years. I live in Rutledge,so I really listen for the weather. But Capt.Herb was such a joy! Even though I don't have to battle Atlanta traffic, I loved listening to the triple team traffic report every six minutes! I can't express how much I will miss hearing him say "now to you Kim McCarthyyy!" Rest in peace Captain. God be with your family.
Captain you will be sorely missed! I grew up listening to You!
I will so miss you Captain Herb! Been listening to you since I can't remember! RIP and keep a watch out for all of us!
God called Captain Herb answered, sure do miss you on the traffic news. Rest in peace, Love you.
I feel like I lost a good friend. I moved to Atlanta 14 years ago and every year I felt closer to Captain Herb and the integrity he brought to his craft and his life, even though I never met him personally.
God Bless Captain Herb and his family. I will miss him!
The Captain helped me for over 20 years to get from home to work. I no longer work, but still wake at 6:00 AM to his voice calling the traffic. Loved his Southern voice and will truly miss the man and his drawl.
I worked with Herb when we were just starting our radio careers. He became a media icon in Atlanta but never changed at all.I have so many fond memories. A great guy.RIP Herb.
You were more than the traffic guy in the copter. You were a friend to all of us and you will really be missed especially around Christmas. Rest well my friend and thanks for all the memories and all the times you kept me from being late.
Fly true and fly home brother.
My sincere condolences to the Emory family. Being in the service industry, Captain Herb has been a big part of my day for years. I will miss his wit and humor, it will take a while to get used to him not being there. I'm sure he's smiling down upon us.
If I know anything, it's that Captain Herb enjoyed a speed limit ride right through the pearly gates. Godspeed, good man. Thank you for leaving the world a better place.
So sad to listen to the radio, expecting to hear Captain Herb. Though I never met him, he was obviously a great guy, and I offer my sincere condolences to his family and friends.
Words do not express the sense of loss we feel. Capt. Herb helped us navigate the maze of Atlanta traffic for years. We recently retired to Alabama, but still tune in for traffic reports when we are in Atlanta. The traffic team is awesome, but Capt. Herb will be missed. Love and prayers for family and friends.
Somehow I think Capt. Herb will find another auto-flambé, or carbeque, or a big, achin' toe to warn folks of in Heaven and he'll be there to sound the red alert. We miss you Herb & God Bless!
Captain Herb was loved for many reasons. The thing I loved the best was that as Santa on the radio, he told every child "I love you!" from Santa…. I cry thinking of it now. What a beautiful gift for those children. God has a most high place selected for our beloved Captain Herb. xo
Captain Herb, yours was the voice of calm in the chaos that is Atlanta rush hour. We love you and miss you very much!
Rest in peace I will miss you every morning ......how he just just roll it to Kim Mc''a"tyyy
Thank you for all your tireless and loving work...You gave me a bright start to my day no matter what..you fly with Angels now...Bless You!
Loved your compassion Captain Herb of guiding Atlantan's through their day. Somehow I know you are in that great sky chopper in the sky still doing it. We know your family is grieving in their loss and so are we. Heaven hasn't a bad seat in it though and I hope that comforts your family!
I have known of Captain Herb for many years and he was an icon in his field. Each morning I would listen to the WSB crew on my way to work. I am fortunate to be able to pick up the station living in Jacksonville Fl. He will be missed.
"Mine eyes have been blinded by the Sunshine Slowdown..or maybe it's the tears I shed now that Herb is not around. I know I won't be lost and my path to work will be found "cause the Triple Team is always around".Glory Glory to Skycopter,Glory Glory to Skyplane Every 6 minutes of every hour their reports will be marching on!!!
Well done good and faithful servant.
My prayers are with Captain Herbs family and friends
I miss you so much Captain Herb! I just can't believe you are gone. I will keep your family and friends in my prayers. I know we have an angel watching over us.
It's not like a celebrity left us. We as Atlantans lost a friend. God Bless you Capt., and your family!
Appropriate words are hard to find to express what is in my heart at the loss of Capt. Herb as I listen to the radio. I pray that his family finds comfort from many wonderful memories they had with this fine gentleman. All of Atlanta grieves. He was one-of-a-kind and will be remembered for a long time to come.
This has been a rough week for us as we try a go through life without Captain Herb.
Everyday I travel in and out of Atlanta and have been doing so since 1983.
Captain Herb was in the car with me every morning and evening, guiding me around town.
As a native Atlantan, I know the backroads or surface streets and it was Herb and his team that I relied on.
I am so thankful the he trained the team as we know it today. He would be proud to know how they carried on.
Although I never got to shake his hand or look him in the eye, I feel as though I have lost a good friend.
My Heart and Prayers go out to Mrs Karen and theTeam at 750.
Herb my not be with us but his legend will live on in our hearts. God Bless.
I didn't know you personally, but for many years you aided in my commutes all over the Metro Atlanta Area. Your guidance kept me safe and away from tragedy. I will truly miss you, I send love and prayer to your family. You were truly inspirational and always brought smiles to my face.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the family. We loved Captain Herb's traffic reports.
What an awesome individual. He has left behind a very large pair of shoes that may never be filled.
High in the air as a great Radio traffic reporter.....down to earth as a loving, caring human being!!
We will miss you. Love and prayers to his family.
I live in Hartwell, GA. it takes me 10 minutes to drive to work, however, I always have my car radio tuned in to the Atlanta station and the news. i loved hearing Capt. Herb's traffic reports and glad I was not in that mad house traffic. I will miss his reports. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.
Morning and afternoon traffic reports won't be the same without him.
Missing Captain Herb whose familiar voice helped me survive the commute for years. He did a fabulous job of training the traffic team to carry on. I never knew what a good person he was until all the stories have come out since his passing. He was a wonderful man and made a huge difference in the community. The loss is immeasurable.
So sorry will be missed each and ever time I have to go into Atlanta
Much respect and gratitude for the example of servitude to the community and servitude to "others"...an example for us all.
Our Condolences, I grew-up hearing traffic reports given over the radio stations and hearing the familiar voice of Capt. Herb and his detail traffic reports..He will truly be missed as one of Atlanta's Icon.
I live in Syracuse, NY, and I've listened to Capt. Herb every day while at work (on the internet) just to listen to his traffic reports - not that I was driving, but because they were so funny. I will always remember his "mattresses in the road", " someon's lost a ladder", and my all-time favorite "auto flambe". I will certainly miss him. RIP, Capt. Herb.
I worked for Herb back in the 70s at WACX, Austell. I remember those days fondly and will always remember this great, gentle guy. Thanks to Herb and Karen for being so kind to me over the years. I will never forget...
Capt. Herb, when I awoke this morning I heard your voice 4-17 honest, I drove Marta, for 28 yr. I listen to you every morning on my way to work I miss hearing your voice. My Condolence to your family, with love.
My sincere condolences to the family and many faithful listeners. No better way to spend a life than in service to others. You will be missed. May your family and friends find peace in the difficult days ahead and draw closer to the Almighty
Navigating traffic in Atlanta will never be the same. No one will ever be able to replace him! Who else can make you laugh as you sit in traffic? Only Captain Herb!
I commuted to GaTech for several years and would never have made it without Capt. Herb and the team. He will be greatly missed. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and with the WSB family as they deal with his going home to be with the Lord.
Your work on the air helped so many. Your devotion to others off the air will live as a testament to your legacy. You were a role model to all of us at any age.
Our loss is heaven's gain, but God knew that when He gave us Captain Herb & when He called him to come back home. Thank You God, for the time we had. He is sooooo missed!!

Capt. Herb, we know you are truly in the skies now, in eternal heaven smiling down on us. I never met you but you were in my home everyday navigating me and my family through ATL traffic. Your life is an example of selflessness and an inspiration to all.
I moved to Atlanta in 1990 and was shocked at just how bad the traffic was. I had no idea that Capt. Herb would become the Traffic Savior that he was. Rest in peace Capt. Tim, Snellville
God rest your soul
We will all miss you every day
Missing that voice already. Morning traffic just isn't the same without you. Thank you for being the amazing person you were and making Atlanta a better place. Thoughts are with the family.
What a better world we would live in if we all helped our fellow man like Cap'n Herb. He lived his life helping others. What a testament to the kind of man that he was. I always laughed when he said we need a Toe Truck out here. He will really be missed in Atlanta. WSB will never be the same. My condolences to his family and to his WSB family as well. You are all in my prayers
My thoughts and prayers with the family. He will be missed everyday.

Every time I see a helicopter fly over Atlanta, I will remember Captain Herb. God rest his soul.
I will miss that voice! May God bless you and your family.
Love you and Atlanta will miss you
I feel a personal loss because Captain Herb is gone. He was an amazing person to have been able to make us feel that way just by giving us the traffic each day. My days were always a little bit brighter because of him.
I will miss him. As I went home from the airport last Friday and saw the helicopter I told my husband I miss hearing him when I travel
I am among the many who were fortunate enough to work with Captain herb Emory.
I came over to WSB Radio as a guest on Clark Howard's then new program on Sunday afternoon, soon to be moved to weekday afternoon drive. Several months later, Clark took his crew on their first trip and I found myself hosting--as nervous as can be. The news was ending and Captain Herb was about to talk about his "achin' toe."
In a reassuring voice, Capt. Herb introduced me to the audience and sent me on my way. The show went by in a flash.
Capt. Herb did this for everyone. He was the kindest, most unpretentious person I ever encountered at the station.
Capt. Herb was a traffic genius: he knew where to send us and how we could get to work in the morning and to home at night, safe and sound. And he did it with a kind, sympathetic voice and a gentle manner.
Capt. Herb: your toe was always achin'.
Now all of us Ache for you.
Gary E. "Leal Action" Jackson
My special needs son wouldn't listen to anything else but 98.5 to hear Capt. Herb every morning. He loved it to hear him say OH MY ACHING TOE!! You will truly be missed.
Traffic reports wont be the same. Thank you for so many years of dedacation.
A true hero to all. I never knew him but I felt like he was a friend. I feel like I lost a friend. We could all learn a lesson from Captain Herb, his compassion and love for all. No one like you. Your voice and humor took the sting out of days [driving on highway 78] when I just wanted to pull over and get out and walk.
And no one could break to other reports from your colleagues like you...especially when you would say Ashley Fresca.
Until we all meet in heaven...THANKS for keeping me safe and sane on the road!

Capt. Herb respected his first responders and military personnel, and in return the respect and love was given many times over.
I am so sorry for your great loss. A familiar voice that will be sorely missed. May the God who is 'binding up the brokenhearted and comforting those mourning' sustain you during this most difficult time. (Isa. 61:1,2). Again, my deepest sympathies.
Waking up in the morning will not be the same! I know you will be watching out for us in the clouds!!!

I will miss hearing Capt Herb's voice on the radio. Hearing about all the good work he did will make me miss him even more. God truly has an angel in Captain Herb!
Of all the radio personalities I have heard during my thirty-five years listening in the metropolitan Atlanta area, first near Northlake Mall, then in Roswell, Smyrna and now in Greensboro (on Lake Oconee), Captain Herb was the most interesting, informative and helpful. His traffic reports were not only legendary for being accurate and up to date, but his vernacular was filled with humorous and descriptive words and phrases such as "COBBacozzies","DUNwegians", "SPAGHETTI JUNCTION", "MERGING MADNESS", "SUNSHINE SLOWDOWN", that kept me coming back for more whether I needed cutting edge traffic information or not. He even inspired me to coin a few neosyllogisms of my own after moving to Greensboro necessitated my journeying into Atlanta on the the "East Freeway" (I-20). Each day I eagerly listened beginning at 5:45 a.m. for Capt. Herb and his cohorts to let me know if there was a "STONECREST STALL", a "PANOLA PILE-UP", OR A "SNAPFINGER SNAFU" (terms I coined in honor of the Cap'n). Never having met the man (to my regret), I nevertheless had the impression that he was a giant amongst those who knew him well, loving to friends and family alike and generous and caring to a fault (as his last act on Earth so poignantly atests). You will be missed, Capt'n Herb! You made a difference and you cared, a legacy any man would do well to emulate. May your 'copter ride to the pearly gates be smooth and may there be no "jam-up" at St. Peter's Junction! My sincere condolences to the Emory family.
May God bless Capt. Herb's family. I had a 50 mile commute each way before I retired. The first thing I wanted to do, either going to work or coming home, was put the radio on WSB and listen to Capt. Herb. My husband and I still listen when we head out anywhere. He made the traffic stress so much better. He cared so much for everyone else. We will never forget him.
It was such a blessing to have Captain Herb a part of our lives. We will miss his voice. Our prayers & thoughts are with his family.
You were a wonderful man Capt. Herb Emory and we will miss you everyday! I can't believe we will not hear that special voice in the morning! May God Bless your family, friends and WSB family during these difficult days. Rest in peace!
I drove to Atl for over 20 years and I always listened to the Captain every morning. I loved his unique voice. He is really going to be missed. Karen we are praying for all the family.
Heavenly Father, bless Capt. Herb, our friend and Shepherd who guided us thru our daily travels. Although he has left us with broken hearts, surely he is still watching over us. Peace be with him and his family. Amen.
I have been listening to Captain Herb Emory as long as I can remember. We have lost a wonderful person. I will never forget his voice.
My heartfelt condolences to the family of Captain Herb. His joyful morning traffic reports always made me smile. "Oh my aching toe" let me know to delay my departure from home on many occasions.
May your family be comforted knowing how loved and appreciated Captain Herb Emory was to so many. God bless and keep you.
My prayers go out to capt. Herb's family. I just know there will be a traffic jam at his viewings but his spirit will be there getting everyone through it all.
May the God of all Comfort be with the EMORY family in there time of grief. I am very sorry for the loss of your love one. He will be missed.
Thanks for everything, another Angel has his wings.
To the family of Capt. Herb Emory ... he was a giant! Rest content in knowing he lives on through us all appreciating what he gave to us everyday! He was such an ingrained part of my day that I did not need to focus on the tv/radio or stop what I was doing so that I did not miss the traffic reports. My ears would instinctively react to Mark Arum "tossing it out" to Capt. Herb. God Bless and keep you!
While I never met him I have to say you could just tell by listening that he was the consummate professional. Little did I realize he was also a great humanitarian as well. Atlanta was blessed to have him. I send my prayers to his family, his friends and his co-workers.
Myself and my family will truely miss Captain Herb may God bless his family in this time RipCaptain the highway to heaven is clear!
I am a fifth generation Atlantan. Our town has lost some great ones and the Captain is one of those. Peace be with his family and friends.

I used to wave as I sat in traffic and saw your helicopter overhead giving me the way around my troubles in traffic.
There is no way to tell the number of people that you have helped in their personal troubles through your selfless works. God has taken you home. We will
pray for your family. Fred's BBQ, and the Friday fish fry at church will never be the same.
Our hearts are saddened to hear of the passing of Captain Herb Emory. Heaven's gain is certainly earth's great loss. I never met him personally, yet felt I knew him. What a gift. God bless his precious family today and all the days to come.

RIP CAPT.HERB, YOU WILL BE MISSED DEARLY, GOD BLESS
Captain Herb will be missed.
Trust in the Lord Jesus with all your heart; and lean not unto your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct your paths(Prov. 3:5-6).
I've been listening to him since I was a little kid. He will be greatly missed.
Dear Mrs. Emory,
Captain Herb helped me through the traffic for twenty years. I'm sorry for your loss. May God give you strength for the days ahead.
I still cannot comprehend that I will never again hear Captain Herb's voice during the morning and afternoon rush hours. My condolences to his wife and his WSB family. He will be greatly missed by all. RIP Captain Herb.
Before he was, in Scott Slade's words, the man who turned traffic reporting into an art form, Herb was a news reporter. He and I started our careers together in the late 70s covering the Georgia legislature, the august body that is now considering naming an overpass after Herb. I never saw him say a cross word to anyone. He was always right and that's not easy. Our deepest sympathy to Karen, Herb's mother and our extended family at WSB. We are devastated. Lynn Harasin WSB-TV (Retired) Biddeford, Maine
WHEN PEOPLE JUST DO SOMETHING FOR THEMSELVES. IT GOES TO THE GRAVE WITH THEM. BUT WHEN YOU DO FOR OTHER PEOPLE AS HERB DID, THEY LIVE ON FOREVER.
Deepest Sympathy to Capt. Herb Family , Capt.Herb will truly be missed on the radio air waves. That is how I knew which way not to go in the early morning from Decatur to Sandy Springs and back during rush hour traffic and other places as well in Metro Atlanta.....Eternal Rest Herb.....Peace and Blessings to the Family
He was always there for those of us stuck in traffic. His familiar voice was comforting and assured us. His wit lifted your moment. Taken for granted, you feel like folks like him will always be there, for us the listeners. It feels like a member or our family is gone. He will be missed and remembered as one of the best. Bless his family and thanks Captain Herb!
May God be with you in this time of need. Your family is in my families hearts and prayers. Capt Herb, touched and helped so many people in Atlanta.
I am so sorry for the loss of Captain Herb. While I did not commute to ATL, I listened to him or saw him in the morning nearly every day, and feel like we have all lost a friend. He will be sorely missed, and the family and WSB family is in my prayers.
There are certain voices that demand your attention when ever you hear them... and Capt. was one of them. From the morning traffic, to commercials, to his NASCAR show, he demanded your attention...and that will be missed. I met Capt. at a car show a few years back and he was amazing to me. As a young black male, we didn't have a lot in common, but we both shared a loved for old school cars and NASCAR. I then met Mr. Emory at my first NASCAR event and as luck would have it...lol..he told me how to get back to Rockmart AFTER the race so I would not be stuck in traffic for 2-3 hours....lol. For the last 5 years that my wife and I have traveled back home for Christmas, we always listened to the Clark Howard Christmas Radio Program where Mr. Emory played Santa over the radio...and as tears roll down my face.... I smile because his jolly...."Ho, Ho Ho," was and forever will be to me...priceless. Love you Capt....salute! I just purchased a 1969 Chevy Caprice that Capt. and I talked about a while back and I will restore it and name it after him in is honor.
May God give you peace and comfort during this most difficult time. I never had the pleasure of meeting Capt. Herb but he was my "traveling companion" every am and pm during my commute. I feel like I have lost a dear friend!
He was a fine man. May he RIP. Sorry for your loss.
May his wonderful memories last a lifetime... Thanks for the ride...RIP Captain~

I have past through Atlanta many times. I wasn't until I started listening to WSB through my devices that I heard Capt Herb. He was a true professional. Captain Herb steered my around many traffic issues while I was hauling horses around the southeast. I didn't like when I got out of range of WSB radio! He was such a reassuring voice to so many in this area. I pray he rests in peace and that his family, co-workers and friends find strength and comfort during this time. Gob bless all of you.
Every time I got in my car I always turned on the radio and listened for Captain Herb to learn what was going on with Atlanta's traffic. My condolence to his family and close friends. All our drives will be a little lonely going forward.
Oh my aching heart. Thanks for all your help in handling Atlanta traffic and the good deeds you performed. R.I.P. Captain.
We will miss Captain Herb's voice. We never met him, but really feel like we know him. I feel honored to have heard him and to know somethings about him. Rest in Peace Captain.
Your Voice may be silenced but your memory will live on, always. Rest in Peace Captain Herb.
I'm still in disbelief over this beautifully hearted man known as Captain Herb by so many. His heart must've been just too much for this earth. God called him home. I know he'll still be watching over us, except before it was from the WSB TV/Radio chopper. Listening to the traffic will never be the same. That trademark voice was known by all commuters though out the years.
My prayers are with his wife and family and to his many fans. Sad we've lost Capt Herb. A TRUE Atlanta and GA icon.
Rest in the most amazing peace. I'll never forget you.
~Love and prayers ?

Being in sales I heard his voice multiple times daily. It's amazing how much he connected to his listeners. WSB seems to be a huge family. I listened to Clark Howard Saturday afternoon and was just touched. I pray for his family that God will give you peace. We've lost an icon in Atlanta. A real person that did much more than just report the traffic. I hope we all take a little of his spirit and pick up where he left off. "Oh my aching heart" is about all I can say. Captain there's no doubt you are in a better place and we owe you a big thanks for all of your tireless work for others. God bless and rest in peace.

I will never forget saying so often with my co-anchor, Mike Kavanagh: "...now skycopter-skyplane traffic, Captain Herb and the traffic team." And what followed would be the most comprehensive traffic report(s) ever produced. He was a pro's pro. And I am grateful that he was a part of my life.

When my kids were younger, any time they saw a helicopter in the sky, they'd point and say "There's Captain Herb!" Words cannot express my sadness for loss to family, friends, and all of Atlanta. Prayers for the family.
Dear Captain Herb,
For this international expat who was in Atlanta for the better part of the last decade, your interactions with Mr. Boortz were always hilarious and your handovers to Kim McCarthy at the Traffic Center, were legendary. You exuded all that is positive of America -- hardworking, dedicated, positive and professional. I am not a religious man but even I am on my knees saying a loud prayer for you and your loved ones. I loved your Christmas specials as they always made me smile, when I was by myself thousands of miles away from my family, in those days. I have returned to my country for good but the memories of you, Mr. Boortz, Royal, Clark Howard, Mark Arum, Mike Kavanagh and others will be with me forever. Thank you and Happy Trails.
RIP Capt. Emory I am going to miss you giving the traffic update in the morning rest in peace

R.I.P. Captain Herb-til we meet again.
RIP, Captain Herb. You are already missed.
Dearest Karen and Family,
Captain Herb and I go back to 1971 when he moved to Atlanta from Brevard, N. C. We both attended the Atlanta School of Broadcasting as classmates, our radio school instructor was Bill Smith, ( aka, WSB's 750, Bill Vale, " The Midnight Mayor of PeachTree St.) Herb and I attended the National School of Broadcasting, again as classmates. While attending ASB, I, along with all of the other classmates use to kid Herb about the water falls of Connestee Falls. Herb brought in an oversized post card just to prove the falls existed, all of 2 to 3 feet of them, ha ! Everyone had a good laugh over that one. We worked together at WSNE, Cumming, when later, Herb moved to the sister station of WDGL, Douglasville. Never will forget to this day and I'm laughing about it now, when, as he and I used to cut up together at WSNE. I was on air and Herb cut the " On Air " mic on when I left the control room, and I came back not paying attention that the control room monitor was muted, Da ! I remember saying " something ", that wound up " On Air ", I can still see Herb laughing up a storm in the " Preaching Studio ". I still have Captain Herb on one of my after broadcast hour tapes which I made for myself way back in 1972. We made contact several years ago and I still have the email which I saved. My wife called me on Saturday evening to break the news about Captain Herb. My wife and I always tuned in WSB 750 when traveling back to Atlanta to visit family and friends and there was Captain Herb. Captain Herb was the " Professional Voice of Atlanta Traffic Control ". Perhaps WSB can attach some ribbons to the WSB Sky Copter in Captain Herb's Honor and Memory, so all of Atlanta Motorists can see the ribbons waving, knowing that Captain Herb will always be " Way Over Their Heads ".
Always keep the " Mic Open Captain Herb ", cause the Atlanta Traffic is Heavy with Loving Tears in All Directions back at Cha, Captain Herb.
May GOD Bless and sustain you and your family during this time and you will be in our prayers.
Ben and Sieglinde Baldwin and Family,

It is so SHOCKING and WIERD to hear of this news, it dosen't seem true or I don't want it to be. I'm so VERY SADDENED to hear this, he seemed to be a special part of me, that we are going to miss, no matter what was happening on any given day, if you just hear his up-lifting voice guiding the traffic, you just automatically felt better! LORD, I can't believe this!, He will truly and honestly be missed, DARN!
Captain Herb, keep your lights on, remember the 3 C's, autoflambay, if you can move your car wreck to the side do it, and thanks for the video you friended my son with when we visited you on a remote. Miss ya! From one or the original traffic troopers.
CONDOLENCE TO HIS FAMILY.
I will miss him.
May he rest in Peace.
I've been an Atlantan for more than 30 years, and I don't remember a time when Captain Herb was not there to guide us through rain, sleet, wind and ice, and just plan old bad traffic. He could always make me laugh, no matter how bad the traffic jam. He seemed like a wonderful giving person, and I'm sorry I didn't know outside his traffic gig. He will be sorely missed. I believe that, if he could have chosen his way to live this reality, he would have chosen to go out helping someone and in a quick manner. My thoughts go out to his family and friends.
I depended on him all the time.
I liked his voice.
I COULD NOT HOLD MY TEARS when I heard the news.
MAY GOD REST HIM IN ETERNAL PEACE.

Thank you for sharing him with our whole Metropolitan area every day! Loev the idea of teh 400/85 interchange being named after him. My daily drive to work will not be same without Capt. Herb giving the details on which way "not to go" so that I can avoid the daily traffic snarl . Capt. Herb will be missed by so many. To both of his families - you are in my thoughts and prayers. God Bless you.
To the Emory Family:
We have listened to Captain Herb for years and he sometimes woke us up in the morning. He was truly a "trooper" and did an awesome job keeping us informed with the worst traffic spots around town. I'll never forget when it snowed this year. We listened to him every day, all day long. You all are in our thoughts and prayers. We will miss you Captain Herb.
Captain Herb I have listened to your voice for more than 15 years. I depended on you to get me to school and work for as long as I can remember. I have lived in the Atlanta metro area for almost 30 years and of those years, I listened to Captain Herb for a lot of them. You counted on him to let you know about accidents and clogged roads. Radio just will not be the same without him. He died doing something that he loved. He will be missed greatly.
To the Emory family sending my dearest condelence to you. I will miss that wonderful voice. May you rest in peace.

What a sad moment when my daughter called to tell me about Capt. Herb going home to his maker. I'm a native Georgian and Capt Herb is all I know when it comes to traffic in ATL. He will be missed by all. My thoughts and prayers are with all his families - home, work and listeners. He will be missed.
Sincere sympathy to Captain Herb's family. What an amazing guy.
I had the pleasure to meet Capt. Herb many years ago when I worked at a chevron station in Douglasville. I would seem him at least a few times a week, we would talk and cut up while he waited for his gas to finish. He was a very nice man. He will be truly missed everyday. God rest his soul.
This just seems so unreal. Just heard his voice last week and now he is gone. My prayers are with his family and friends at this time. A voice gone too soon. I guess it was getting too congested in Heaven and GOD needed his assitance with the traffic there. GOD's Speed. A job well done here on Earth.
It wasn't the same driving to work this morning. I was debating if I even wanted to go. Capt Herb will be truly missed. His family will have a special guardian angel watching over them. I never knew him personally but with that voice I will never forget him. God Bless

My condolences to the Emory Family and Friends. Capt. Herb's voice will truely be missed. Gone way to soon, but to a WAY better place. Not only Atlanta, but the whole state of Georgia will always remember and love Capt. Herb! RIP Capt.!
You will be missed Captain Herb. Our ride will not be the same :(. Rest in Peace. Our Thoughts and Prayers are with the Emory Family.
And now he is flying just a little bit higher.........
I had met Capt. Herb Emory many times doing what he did often: giving of himself and his time to a lot of community activities. I also had the pleasure of meeting his lovely wife, Karen, when they were both at the Arbor Place Mall for Olympic medalist, Elana Myers' most recent celebration. My prayers and condolences go out to her and the Emory family and friends, as I, too, try to get past the shock of his passing. Heaven gained what we have lost: a really sweet man with a wonderful sense of humor, who got many of us through the driving commutes, and helped so many people through the numerous charities that he participated in for several decades. We will miss Capt. Herb every single day for a very, very long time.
May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow.
Reminds me of the sadness I felt when Lewis Gizzard died. What a sad day for Atlanta. Always turned up the volume when he came on even when I wasn't driving! Loved his wit. He will be missed.
Sincere condolences to the family of Capt. Herb, his WSB family and all his friends. His was a voice of calm in the roadways of madness as he made his best effort to guide us to our destination safe and sound. But he was such a giving person outside his traffic reports with all his charity work.We will miss your voice over the radio. RIP Captain Herb. -
I am a native Georgian and I don't remember when I didn't wake up to Captain Herb. I listened to him even before he joined the WSB team and it was just such a pleasure to hear that booming voice telling which way to go andhow long it would take me to get there. Since he has been with WSB, I became aware of all the benovolent activity he did as well. We have lost a true Icon for Atlanta and my thoughts and prayers go with his family, friends and his WSB family. God bless you all.
Captain Herb with the word. "Put a smile on your face, song in your heart, tap in your toes." He's flying with his own wings now.
Thanks for everything that you did Captain Herb, I relied on you every day to get me to work and home. Will miss you greatly.
To the Emory family our most sincere condolences to you, and to the WSB radio family.Capt Herb made navigating Atlanta traffic easier and was excellent at his job. But even more, it was his personality that became a daily part of our lives. "You can depend on it" took on new meaning when he was the one giving advice. We salute him for all of his community service efforts. He appeared tireless; a life taken too soon for those of us with whom he shared his life. I was always touched by his concern for the new driver; he always felt that there was more that could be done to prepare them for the distractions and hazards of the roadways. Checking in from ITP - Atlanta
I'm retired now, but over the years of my having to leave my residences very early mornings from College Park, East Point, Southwest Atlanta and Southeast Atlanta to get to work by 7:30 in Chamblee, Ga, Capt Herb guided me safely through the I-85 early morning traffic for many years and I will forever be grateful to him for his service to me and the whole Metro Atlanta/Georgia "drivers" community. He will be missed by many, but just know, he's "flying a little higher" now. May he rest in peace: To be "Absent from the body is to be present with the LORD".
He will truly be missed, I would listen to him to plan my commute. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family.
Can't imagine not hearing his voice in the mornings or looking up at his helicopter and knowing he is not there. He has had an impact on all those traveling in and around Atlanta, at NASCAR and with all the non profit groups he worked with. He was truly "one of a kind" and will be missed. Thoughts and prayers with his family and all those that were fortunate enough to have known him well.
Capt. Herb I will miss hearing your voice everyday. Atlanta has lost a member of our community family. God bless.
Many condolences to the Captain Herb Emory Family. Around the world, who can ever forget the many ways in which he has helped all of us?
Who is gonna fill these shoes. No One. I do not care who WSB gets to replace The Captain. Sad Day. All I can say to his wife Karen is I will pray for peace and comfort that will only come from the Lord Jesus Christ. Godspeed Herb.
God bless all the family and friends of Captain Herb at this sad time. Herb will always be lovinly remembered and perpetually missed.
This morning, I waited...and waited...and waited...
I didn't hear your voice
A constant with funny sayings to help us all through the ups and downs of what we've come to live with - Atlanta traffic.
My family, along with others miss you like crazy already...
Friday won't be the same without hearing "song in your heart, tap on your toes..."
Rest in Heaven, Cap!
Captain Herb was very passionate about his work and very helpful. His voice was familiar and calming in giving you a chance as a commuter to get home efficiently and safely. I think my favorite saying of his was something like "a song in your hear and a tap in your your toes." He was a happy man and a great example. My family (and all of Atlanta) will definately miss Captain Herb!
My drive to and from work will never be the same with out his distinct voice informing me about traffic
R.I.P Captain. You will be dearly missed.
Sincere condolences to the family of Capt. Herb, his WSB family and all his friends. His was a voice of calm in the roadways of madness as he made his best effort to guide us to our destination safe and sound. But he was such a giving person outside his traffic reports with all his charity work. RIP Captain Herb.
Captain Herb, I relied on you to help me to arrive to my job sites very day and get their on time. I also knew if rain was coming and you helped me to protect me from danger spots when I was delivering heavy materials. I enjoyed your sense of humor with Neil Bortz. I will miss your voice immensely. But I know your up their flying with the angels.
While I no longer live or work in Georgia, I sure did appreciate Cap'n Herb's report while I was at Georgia State University back in the 90's (and working as a city truck dispatcher right after college-I really did appreciate his work then). He will be missed by many, I'm sure - both near and far. Godspeed from St Petersburg.
Capt. Herb Emory......depend on it!!
And we did....He will be sorely missed.
I always listed to his traffic report when I had doctor visits in Atlanta. He was unique. Prayers for his family.
You brought sunshine to each of us every day. You are going to be missed by everyone. A void in our lives where you came each day. Heaven has a Wonderful Angel..R.I.P until we meet again Capt.Herb.

One of the few good things about Atlanta traffic; he will be missed!
One of the highlights to start my morning was to hear Captain Herb give my reports on 78 traffic.
They need to rename the WSB traffic center the "Captain Herb Traffic Center" sponsored by "whoever."
I will miss that voice, every morning I listen for the traffic report on WSB TV. I am total shock. My prayer goes out to the family. A True Listener. RIP

Commute was not the same Capt. Herb. I've been driving to work for years listening to you and this morning....listened to Mark. May God bless and comfort your family at this difficult time. You will be missed!
Your voice will be missed, your legend will be revered and your presence in our lives will leave a void that no one will ever be able to fill. The one time I was fortunate enough to meet you at a station remote many years back, you were friendly, open and gracious. Like many, I relied on your expertise and experience whenever I was on the road. Your colleagues will fill in admirably, but no one could ever take your place. I have you and your family (including your WSB family), in my prayers.
In Germany now and heard about it. My condolences to Herb Emory's family
Our Captain herb has left us but we will meet again in heaven. My love and prayers to hos loving family! R.I.P.
I met Captain Herb at this past year's NASCAR race weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway. He was so kind and asked about Marketing and Promotions Director, Marcy Scott who was very ill at the time. You could tell he was a wonderful person who cared more about others than himself. Atlanta will not be the same without him.
R.I.P. Captain Herb. Your voice and expert travel advise will be missed.
I dont even drive, but listening to Capt. Herb in the mornings always made me smile. He was so chipper and personable. My warmest condolences to his family and all of us who will miss him always.
To the Emory family:
As you remember the love,
As you mourn your loss,
May you also celebrate the life!
"What you leave behind is not what is engraved in stone monuments, but what is woven into the lives of others." (Pericles)

Capt. Herb Emory has always been a reliable source of not only traffic information but trust that we'd all get thru rush okay. I'd wake up to his voice heading to class at Ga. State knowing he'd have me ahead of whatever was on the road and continued following his reports onto my first professional job. Thank you Captian Herb Emory for all your years of service from everyone in the city of Atlanta and beyond. You will be dearly missed.

You will always remain that traffic "eye in the sky" for all of Atlanta and that sincere helping hand for your fellow man.
You made a profound difference on each and every one of us and all of Georgia and you will be missed.
RIP Capt. Herb
You will be greatly missed Captain Herb! Not just your voice, but your personality and dedication to the community. May God bless your family during this time of sorrow.
I hope it is a speed limit ride to heaven for Captain Herb. He has been a friend in the car with me for years helping me navigate the metro Atlanta traffic. Prayers for the family.
Every Monday morning at 5:00 am while I leave Atlanta heading to Columbia, SC, I tune my radio to 750 AM to hear that familiar voice of Capt. Herb leading the traffic report with bombast and confidence. Always enjoyed his rapid-fire delivery and his knowledge of the city was amazing. I was very saddened to hear Monday morning of his passing on Saturday. While I live in Alabama, ironically I was in Atlanta visiting the MLK Center the very moment he passed. What a great loss. He will be missed. Also, I did not know he was so involved in charity work. Amazing icon. Thanks, Capt. Herb for all the reports and those funny commercials. Prayers to his family; thanks for sharing him with us. You should be proud.
To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."
It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.
Ruth Ann Mahaffey (author)
Heaven must have had a traffic jam and needed his help....God bless his family and friends
Capt. Herb will truly be missed.. It doesn't feel like home without his voice from the chopper..
RIP Capt Herb..
I remember once there was some police chase and Capt. Herb begged folks on the interstate move over out of the way and as they did he thanked the drivers as he saw cars moving to the shoulders per his guidance.
Rest with Jesus Captain. We love you Karen. Betty Milam CLEA-A

Captain Herb will be missed by all of Georgia, he effortlessly guided us from dawn to dusk. May he also be remembered for the 'voice' of Santa Claus on Christmas Eve on WSB Radio, letting little children tell him what Santa was to bring them that night....My prayers extend to his wsbtv and radio families as well as his family. He was a wonderful man. May God bless you and keep you in your time of sorrow.
I have had the honor and pleasure of having Capt Herb Emory & Karen as good friends since 1993. A friendship that began with a phone call to WSB radio where I would be the second caller on Capt Herb's new NASCAR show. Over the many years since then I have been lucky enough to have the friendship of one of the finest, caring, generous, & nicest people that I have ever met in my 55 years on this earth. Herb Emory loved his wife Karen, his family, & truly cared about his fellow man. He had the upmost respect for our law enforcement community, first responders, & for our military men & women. His endless energy & commitment to helping the Marines Toys for Tots each year was a prime example. My wife & I were fortunate enough to take part in the yearly toy drive, & live radio broadcast for many years now, & seeing Herb's dedication to this cause was amazing. It has been said, & is true that Herb had a way of touching the lives of folks from every walk of life in a positive manner, whether it be his priceless help in navigating Atlanta's rush hour traffic or his never ending generosity to charities, the man loved to help others. I am shocked, saddened, & surprised at Herb's sudden passing, but I am not surprised at what he was doing that Saturday afternoon..........trying to help someone in need at a traffic accident. It is with heavy heart I have written this, it will always put joy in my heart when I remember all the great times we had. I extend my sincere condolences to all affected by Herb's passing. Karen, we will keep you & Herb's mom in our prayers.
Godspeed Herb Emory, we miss you already buddy!
Robbie In Red Oak

I lived in GA about 40 years, then moved out of state for 10 years, returning home in 2012. One of the best parts of coming home to GA was hearing Capt. Herb's voice again. Kindness and concern were so incredibly evident in his words, a great warmth to start and end each work day. Godspeed, Captain. Atlanta simply will not be the same or as good without you.
RIP Capt. Herb. I live in Texas now but would listen to you on WSB radio. I hope your family knows how very precious to the Atlanta community. Fly high and thank you again

To Captain Herb's other family,
Thanks so much for sharing him with our state, our city, and with me!
I grew to know that when he spoke, listen up because he was going to tell you something very important about traffic or what was going on in the area! This winter's "Snowcalypse" was just one example. When I was stuck in my car for 7.5 hours trying to get home from Cobb County to Atlanta, I immediately turned to WSB Radio because I knew he would be on the air and would help me get home. I listened to him the entire time and felt safer knowing he was looking out for me!!

My day was always a little better for having seen him.

I've talked with him on the phone several times and at the recent Traffic Trooper Luncheon. He was always asking if I was okay and if there was anything he could do. I told him I was taking it one day at a time, one foot in front of the other. He would tell me to "Keep going,Big Boy! That's what you gotta do." Herb will be SORELY MISSED.
