Jef and I first met Archbishop Donoghue when he was celebrating Mass at the Gift of Grace home. After that, he always joyfully greeted us whenever our paths crossed --and even if a room was filled with hundreds of people, he gave us his full attention as if we were his special friends. He truly acted "in the person of Christ." May the angels lead him into paradise!

May you find eternal rest in the Lord our God.

In keeping with this Sunday's Gospel readings in Mt. 25: 14-30 where the master gives his servants 5,2, or 1 talents, Archbishop John Francis Donoghue is definitely the servant with 5 talents who returns to his master with many more talents.

"Well done, my good and faithful servant."

Over 11 years ago the Catholic Church of the Archdiocese of Atlanta was a family in need of a father. Archbishop Donoghue came to us and was willing to be just that. As our spiritual father he graciously laid down his life and his time to lead and serve us. As we mourn the loss of our father we must also thank him for being a father who ministered to us...who prayed with us...and who led us...but most importantly who simply loved us.

Kathi Stearns, Chancellor of the Archdiocese of Atlanta from 2001-2005
