Ms. Boone, Andrea, Jo-"Jet", My deepest condolences go to you and please, please, please accept my apologies for not being in contact sooner. I learned sooo much about history of our people from our trips to Selma and conversations while cutting Rev. Boone's hair. The imprint has been left on my heart forever. You are in my prayers and know that I love you.
Very recently, in the pages that I am writing for my grandchildren to record my family history, I wrote about Rev. Boone. I was a teenager in the 1950s when Rev. Boone was appointed pastor of our Church in Anniston. He made a deep impact on my life then and that influence has continued throughout my life. I have never forgotten him. He formed a Junior Choir and, though I was not the world’s best piano player, he permitted me play for this choir, treating me as if I was a professional musician. It is still amusing to think of some of the “bad” kids, including my youngest brother, whom he convinced to join the choir. I don’t remember that the church had Vacation Bible School before he arrived. He also provided camping trips for some of the young people. I was just a little bit too old, and felt envy of those who did travel to the Birmingham campground. Rev. Boone had a warm charm which commanded our respect. His sermons were memorable, as was his eulogy at my father’s funeral. After all these many years, I am able to think of him as a man of integrity, wisdom and good will. We loved him! That’s just it! My condolences are offered to Rev. Boone’s family. Thank you for sharing him with us.
To the Boone Family:
May you find comfort from the scriptures: II Corinthians 1:3,4
Our thoughts and prayers are with you in your time of grief. May your memories bring you comfort.
Rev Boone had a very direct impact in my sisters and brothers early life while attending school;(Haugabrooks Academy) Rush Memorial Church is where the Black Private School started in the early 60's, The Johnson Kids was the 1st class thanks to his generiosity to Ms. Sullivan and this is where he gave all of us the vision, wisdom and knowledge that we could make a difference in so many lives as youth and the importance of contributions and giving back. My family and myself attended many programs, protest marches etc.. and he utilize us to be some of the 1st kids to integrate the white church and summer church religious camps. He was a Visionary and I will never forget what he gave to my siblings and myself. He very much inspire my life and some of his early trainings I still utilize today. We will miss him but never forget such a Giant who gave each day of himself. I remember his beautiful wife who played for the church and her dainty lady like ways, and quiet contributions as well. I am now 53 years of age and have never forgot what he gave to us all in the Civil Rights Days. May God Be With The Family and Give them Continous Fund Memories of this Giant Of A Man.
To the Boone Family,
I am so sorry about your loss. Take much comfort in the Bible promise at Isaiah 26:19 "Your deceased ones will rise again".

Who would care for the blind? They cant vote, they have no money to speak of, they have no business or political influence and they are limited in their ability to move and they cant really acknowledge you visually but I remember Rev Joe Boone cared for them as if they were ambassadors from a rich country, as if they were celebrities, movie or sports stars – like most of us bow down to those who have money whether they have a heart or not – He served them tirelessly and I will always remember that. He never sought the cameras or stopped serving whether he was recognized or not and he was like a Lion – strong and courageous in what he did, not timid and cowtowing to the power structure and the political animals – he was a true man of God a warrior and I will never forget him. I will never forget that he and my dad Hosea Williams were two of a kind and loved each other dearly – I will never forget what true Christlike living is like as exemplified by Rev. Joe Boone and I will miss him dearly. To the family – Praise God that you were born into this time with this man. The prayers of The Hosea Feed The Hungry family are with you – always.

A man who has lived a long life, thus dedicated it to mankind as a whole. Gone, but never to be forgotten. Living in the days of the civil rights era...put him along side of the greatest ones. The family can take great pride in all of his accomplishments, not for himself, but for what he accomplished, he gave back to all who knew and love him. The gates of heaven are open, he shall be welcome in and all of the saints have open their arms, bidding him a welcome like none have seen before. For a mighty and great time awaits you. May your family be at peace knowing you are well taken care of. God Speed! Deacon Robert Willis Henry, Kennesaw, GA

To Rev. Boone's Family and Friends:
If He should die and leave you here awhile,
be not like others, sore and undone,
who keep long vigils by the silent dust, and weep.
For His sake, turn again to life and smile.
Nerving your heart and trembling hand to do
something to comfort other hearts than yours.
Complete those unfinished tasks of His
and He, perchance, may therein comfort you.

To the Boone family, my former family, I just want to extend my condolences to all of you, the Boones and the Montgomery because I am still a Montgomery by name, and I still have lots of love in my heart for this family. I remember, all the times we would have family dinners, and Uncle Joe would tell the stories about Grandma Boone, I think we all knew the stories by hard, because we heard them so often, but there was always something special everytime you heard them. I know he is going to be missed. He was a strong man. And you couldn't keep him down. I just want to say to his wife, his daughters, and his sisters and brothers.Heaven has just received another angel. and one day you will see him again. And that is what makes you smile, knowing you will see him again one day,My prayers are with you and Uncle Joe you just rest, you have done your dutis down here, and now it's time to rest.
Love Always

In the Alabama of the 1950's when "standing tall " was dangerous for a Black Man,"Rev" led my small home church in Anniston, loudly, proudly and with vigor. I smile when I think of him.
My heart goes out to his family.
