I spent my last week as a government employee working with Dan on a project to simplify and standardize government-ese language. He was a delight and I loved him from the first time I ever saw him in a class I taught in New Carrollton. He bought me a huge bottle of Bailey's Irish Creme for my retirement. I would like to thank all of you for the kind and beautiful messages you have sent to the Ahern Family. I'm Dan's brother Pat Ahern and wish to tell you Dan had a great Irish send off here in Syracuse surrounded by 21 nephews and nieces and 47 great nieces and nephews and many friends and out of towners that came from Kentucky,Canada and Florida,etc.
I'm so proud of the life Dan built for himself and John. He never missed a family wedding or Christmass. Love you all. See you in Atlanta for Menorial. Patrick Ahern. 315-468-1588

I was just reading the Syracuse newspaper online and was so saddened to see that Dan had passed away. I lived in the neigborhood of the Ahern's, back in the early 60's, when we were "teenagers". I remember Dan and Pat, specifically. My heart goes out to the Ahern family. I'm sorry you lost a good man at such a young age.

To John and all of the Ahern clan, Dan and I worked together for several years in Atlanta and he helped me get settled relocating from Boston. Always a smile, always a kind word, always a friend. We'll remember Dan for all of his restaurant recommendations and travel tips.

To all of the Aherns, I remember our fathers being best friends.As I was growing up Danny and Pat smiling faces. The happy caring of Danny even though I was a kid to them.He was a very kind upperclassman at St Lucy's. I will always remember his caring and happy ways
