I have many fond memories as a young child going into his store on Peyton Road with my mother to shop. He was always pleasant with our family. While its nice to hear about the celebrities and power brokers from our neighborhood who frequented his store, the real legacy of Mr. Hersch was in his service to an underserved community during post segregation. He filled a much needed void long before grocery chains appeared. When he moved his store from Peyton my father (James Jackson)helped pass on the service by opening a small string of grocery/convenience stores in the community. I was surprised to hear Mr. Hersch was still around after all these years as my father has long made his transition. What a blessing for a long and worthy life. Mr. Hersch will forever be remembered as a part of the rich history that launched Atlanta's elite Black community. My thanks to Mr. Hersch for his contributions and my condolences to his family.

I am so sorry to hear about the death of Mr. Hersch. I worked for him for 11 years. He was just like a father to me. He was always concerned about my well being, I left the store in 1988 to work for the air lines. I was only gone for about 2 weeks when he called me and asked me to come back. He called me "lil Bit", he said Lil Bit, i want you to come back, You take good care of me, He said that I could work part time if I wanted to, just come back. I ended up quitting the other job and working full time again. I will miss him very much.

Deepest sympathy to the Hersch family on the loss of your loved one. I was employed @ Hersch's on Jackson Parkway in Atlanta.

To the friends and family of Mr. Hersch...He was so very much appreciated.
This is a very true story that should be told. i am now 62 years old, and I remember being with my mom (I was 11 yrs. old) and watching her use credit at his store...also my brother who is now 60Y worked for Mr. Hersh during his elementary and h.s. years before leaving ATL for college. Yes, Mr. Hersch's community service was beyond compare.
