Dear Bobby and family
Years ago we lost touch with each other, but you and Jan have never been far from my mind. Tomorrow I will talk to my Sunday School class about a history of commitment to Christ and to Anna. Anna died this past July on our 58th Anniversary. One of the things I will say tomorrow covers the strength of our commitment to the Lord and the scriptures, starting in our Sunday school class taught by Jan in Cambridge.
So sorry for your loss. Both of you, your smiles, your character, your friendship have come in and out of my consciousness since we first met at MIT in 1955.
I pray that God will give you great peace as you remember your life with a remarkable man.
In Christian love,
Robert (Bob) Crice

Dear Bobby and other family,

It was a great privilege to know Dr. Boal going back many years. I saw him on many occasions at FBC Columbia, and Jesus surely shined through him. I recall being very favorably impressed one Sunday night when he shared with our Training Union group.

I had hoped to have him as professor for advanced calculus while I was studying at USC Columbia, but that did not happen. I remember that he had a very good reputation as a math teacher.

We had a very special experience in early 1995, as he hosted us at the Veranda in honor of my mother, Elizabeth Burrus', 80th birthday. "Us" included Mother, Jane, Gene and I. Dr. Boal was such a gracious host, so hospitable. And he did this while you, Bobbie, were recovering, after hospitalization, at your daughter's house in Atlanta. I remember that the four of us stopped by to see you before we left the Atlanta area.

Thinking of you and praying for you in this time of loss.

It is so ironic how I leaarned of Dr. Boal's death. My husband and I married after our junior year at USC (1962).. Since I was very involved with the Lutheran Student Association, we lived in the garage apartment behind their newly purchased facility on the corner of Pickiens and Pendleton. That is another story. The chaplain at the time was a Dr. Carl Ficken, a close friend and he passed away the first of January in Georgia. When I went to look up his obituary, that is when I saw Dr. Jan List Boal's obituary. So that was a sign to me that I should acknowledge the impact that he had on my life. He was my advisor when I was studying for my master's degree in math at USC(1963-1965). From a small high school in NC. I probably was not the caliber of student that most of the others were. I taught on a National Science Foundation Assistant. applied for through his encouragemet, and eventually received an MS in math . I went on to teach at UNC- Charlotte under Dr. Jim Wahab, Dr. Boal's advisor at Georgia Tech who was the head of the math dept. at UNC Charlotte. Later, after my children were born, I became the "best" math teacher in Lincoln County. NC and even in the region. I say this for two reasons: first I had the best teachers to teach me
and second because of the knowledge impartead to me. I could explain not only the how, but the why.
THANK YOU DR. JAN LIST BOAL FOR YOUR GUIDANCE AND TO BOBBIE AND YOUR FAMILY FOR SHARING HIM WITH STUDENTS LIKE ME.
