I was a young 23 year old Baseball Caoch when I met Coach DeVore in 1977. He was always available with a quick tip, insight or suggestion. His passion for kids and the game of baseball was truly remarkable. I will miss him and high school baseball will miss him more.

Fayron and Dusty,
May you find peace and contentment from the outpouring of love for John from the many people--former players, students, coaches, and friends--expressed since the sad news of his passing on January 12, 2013. I had the great joy of working with Coach DeVore at Southwest Dekalb from 1972 to 1979. He and I were on the football staff with Coach Dewey Alverson and I also served as his baseball assistant. I do have my fondest memories of him on the baseball diamond, including the great pride he always took in his fields.

Fayron,Dusty; I am so sorry for your loss. As you know I last saw Coach DeVore on Dec 15th 2012 at our 40th High school State Football Championship reunion. I knew Coach DeVore had been sick and what an extreme effort it was on the family's part to get him there, but when he entered the room our eyes connected and his face lit up with that unique smile he always had and it just brought tears to my eyes as I went over to hug him. I personally was priviledged to have had him coach me from the 8th grade thru the 12th at SWD. He will always be remembered by me not only as a great coach but more importantly someone who taught me the GAME OF LIFE. Thoughts and prayers to your family. Jucky Burns SWD Class of 1974.

Coach DeVore was a mentor to me while coaching in DeKalb County. He even came to my field an worked with my pitchers; and yes made recommendations concerning my field. My prayers go out to is family, but we celebrate in knowing that he has won the ultimate game on the most beautiful field. Blessings.
