Family-Placed Death Notice
SCOTT, Marcy Marcy Lynn Scott, 42, of Mableton, surrounded by her family, passed peacefully in her sleep on November 1, 2013, in Lilburn after a courageous five year battle with breast cancer. Born in Atlanta, she was the beloved daughter of Buck and Charlotte Scott and the sister of Stewart P. Scott. Marcy, a 1989 graduate of Parkview High School, cheered for the Panthers all four years of high school and still maintained a close relationship with her cheerleading friends. In 1993 she graduated from University of GA with a dual major in psychology and political science and was a member of the AO sorority. Following college, she worked at Winn-Dixie where friends introduced her to NASCAR. Due to her passion for the sport and her vivaciousness and friendliness, Marcy eventually found employment in Charlotte, NC, as a Public Relations rep, traveling with various teams and racecar drivers (Larry Pearson, Scott Hanson, Jeff Green, Scott Wimmer, Ricky Craven, Kenny Wallace, Matt Kenseth, and Ward Burton). During this time, she experienced the thrill of winning the Busch Series Championship in 2000 with Jeff Green and the Nesquik team and in 2002 winning the Daytona 500 with Ward Burton. After 9 years on the road (39 weeks every year), she realized that her experience would qualify her for a management position but it had to be involved with racing. Her luck prevailed and she was hired in 2005 as the Director of Marketing and Promotion at the Atlanta Motor Speedway where she worked at her desired and exciting career until her death. Marcy was a member of the Atlanta Sports PPR Committee, the Atlanta Sports Council, and the National Motorsports Press Association, and was a well respected Marketing Director in Atlanta and the NASCAR community. Marcy was an inspiration to many as she fought cancer head on for 5 years, never once believing that she would not beat this dreaded disease. From the day she was diagnosed, her positive attitude and determination carried her through the many treatments and complications she endured. During her ordeal, her many friends stepped forward to comfort and care for her on a continuous basis and assisted her through the entire progression of this disease. Marcy always commented on how blessed she was to be surrounded by so many friends who nurtured and loved her and were part of her family. In addition to her mother and father, she is survived by the following: brother; Stewart P. Scott of Atlanta, grandmother and grandfather - Jane and Jay Hollis of Fayetteville, NC; aunt and uncle - Pat and Stephen Lester of Lascassas, TN; aunts - Jonette Crowe of Greenville, NC, and Tanya Mooney of Fayetteville, NC; cousins - Tony Slaydon and Adam Mooney of Fayetteville, NC; and godson - Morgan J. Urmanski. Marcy also has large Scott and Morris families in NC: The Jennie S. Bleecker family, the Berry R. Scott family, the Edgar W. Scott family, Jimmy V. Scott family, William Scott family, the Katherine S. Baird family, the Ann S. Tolar family, the Roscoe Young family, the James Atkinson family, the Linwood Morris family, the Everett Morris family, and the Charles Morris family. The family will receive friends at Crowell Brothers Funeral Home 5051 Peachtree Industrial Boulevard, Peachtree Corners, GA 30092, from 4 to 7 PM on Sunday, November 3, 2013. A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, November 4, at Eastminster Presbyterian Church, 5801 Hugh Howell Road, Stone Mountain at 12 PM. In lieu of flowers, Marcy requested that anyone wishing to make a donation, please give to Piedmont Healthcare Foundation, 2001 Peachtree Road NE, Suite 400, Atlanta, GA 30309. On the memo line, write: Marcy Scott/Cancer Wellness. Marcy obtained tremendous comfort and benefit from Cancer Wellness, which is an organization that assists and guides cancer patients (free of charge) as they struggle with their disease by instructing in proper food preparation, nutrition, relaxation and stress reduction, exercise, yoga, and education as well as providing psychological counseling, support groups, and social events. Arrangements by Crowell Brothers Peachtree Chapel Funeral Directors, 5051 Peachtree Industrial Boulevard, Peachtree Corners, GA 30092. 770-448-5757.

Buck & Charlotte: Memories of King's Ridge Road run deep in our hearts... Buck's manly, Southern congeniality, Charlotte's matchless hot pepper vinegar recipe for succulent ante-bellum rib barbecue sauce, her Corn Plant that she gave to Ethel when you moved (with its babies now thriving in the homes of all our nine kids scattered across the U.S., the children, playing amicably in the neighborhood, except for some of the boys at times (including our Charlie)... the Grundys, Chet and Marilyn Burdick, the Feigers, Tommy and Margaret Sanders, Steve & Lonna Liccini, and who can ever forget Bruno Bizarro and his bully boys? But most poignant in our reveries is the memory of our little Mary and your little Marcy, fast friends and constant pals... loving companions, like sisters - they lit up the neighborhood. Mary is now married to Dwayne Soisson, living in Coweta County (Senoia) Georgia with her large family and her horses. Small world! Cathy, now 62, our first-born, lost one of her twin daughters at age 23. Her pain lessens with time but never goes away. We share your losses. On the bright side, we also share the blessed hope that we will be reunited with all our loved ones in the coming Kingdom.

Buck, Charlotte and Stewart:
Three of our nicest memories of King's Ridge Road are:
Your Marcy and our Mary at play, your friendship and southern charm and Charlotte's barbecue sauce recipe, which we use and relish (and which she should have copyrighted). We learned of your loss just today. Our hearts ache with you. Thankfully, we do not mourn as those who have no hope. Our love and prayers are with you...

Mr. and Mrs. Scott, my prayers are with you tonight as I have just learned of Marcy's passing. It's been so long since our time together in Beechwood Forest, but I had followed Marcy's blog through her diagnosis and multiple surgeries over the past few years. I knew her spirit was strong and determined, yet I had no idea that her battle was continuing. I am sad for you in the loss of your special daughter. Her suffering is over as she enjoys her special place in heaven. May the Lord now provide comfort for you and your family.

I've known Marcy since we were little girls racing around on our Big Wheels on Beth Court. She's a very special lady as evidenced by the many people who already miss her--including me. She's at peace now with no more suffering. I wish peace for her family and friends during this difficult time.
