I have worked with Maurine at CDC. She was a wonderful soft-spoken but strong-willed friend with a great literary taste! I will miss her. May God bless her soul and give Alan and others strength to bear the immense loss.

To Maurine's family who through years have been here for me, I wish to extend my condolences and express how sorry I am not to be with you during these difficult times. Maurine indeed touched a lot of lives including mine; she will be missed.

Maurine was my friend and colleague for many years, first in New Orleans and then at CDC. Her passing leaves a huge hole in my heart. Maurine was an extremely accomplished and energetic public health professional. She was also a skilled and generous mentor. She was extremely bright, analytical, funny, competent, and kind. Her work made a contribution to the nation's health; it helped us address the challenges of developing research that truly represents and reflects our diverse nation.

My heart goes out to her family, in particular to her beloved husband. I will keep you all in my thoughts.

Maurine was a consummate professional in all her work. She was also a sweetheart of a friend. Last time we talked, she saw a visit in her future. It is so sad she never got to do this. Alan, you took such care of her. Thanks to you, she lived longer and better than this cancer would predict. Love.
