A word about the tragic passing of one of my former TWC coworkers. Nick Wiltgen was a wonderful person - passionate about weather and kind and generous as a person. I hope he knew how much people liked and appreciated him. I often think we need to be more vocal to tell those around us how much we do appreciate them. Everyone has insecurities but some hide them well. Tell someone today how they make your life better. You never know when it will be too late.

I worked with Nick when I was on the air at KFRX in Lincoln, NE. I hadn't spoken with him in 4 years when I reached out to him via e-mail two weeks ago. He wrote me back right away, and I am thankful to have touched base with him and get an update on his life. Nick was goofy, quirky, fun, funny, and had a heart of gold, in addition to endless amounts of passion. I am proud to have worked with him and call him a friend. I will miss him and wish I had spoken to him more over the last few years. We drifted with years. May the family find peace in knowing Nick will always be with them, his memory will live on and that infectious smile and laugh will never leave our heads. I loved watching Nicholas on The Weather Channel. Meteorology is such a passion of mine as it was always what I wanted to do. I am so saddened to here of this tragedy. He always brought a super personality to the screen, was dedicated, passionate, and always made mine, and I'm sure many more, days and nights when he was on air. He will be missed terribly. Nick was our neighbor and we always enjoyed seeing him on the elevator and out for a walk with the dogs. We are very saddened by his death and our thoughts and prayers are with those he left behind. We will certainly miss his kindness and smile.
