EDMONDSON, Hattie Wallace Jones "It's what you do with what you have that makes you what you are. Don't make excuses, make work." That was one of the favorite sayings of Hattie Wallace Jones Edmondson, who was born March 24, 1923 in the community of Smoketown in Louisville, KY. She died October 18, 2016 in Jonesboro, GA at The Palms of Lake Spivey after a brief illness. Hattie was determined to be a success. She was the first person in her family to graduate from high school. She graduated from St. Mary's Academy in the French Quarter of New Orleans in 1944. She worked her way through the boarding school. She was one of the first and few women mail sorters at the Louisville Post Office in the 40s. She married her childhood sweetheart, Maurice Jones in April 1946. One daughter was born from that union. She was baptized at Little Flock Baptist Church and then converted to Catholicism and became a member of St. Peter Claver Catholic Church in Louisville, KY. Almost 30 years ago she moved to Atlanta and joined Wheat Street Baptist Church. Lovingly called Grandma Hat by many, Mrs. Edmondson is survived by her daughter, Monica Pearson and son-in-law, John Pearson Sr.; granddaughter Claire P. Deveaux, all of Atlanta; sister-in-law Corine Claypool and her children and childhood friend, Dorothy Winburn and her children, of Louisville, KY, plus a host of friends. Always a giver Hattie donated her body to the Emory School of Medicine. A private memorial service will be held. In lieu of flowers, celebrate her life with a contribution to Meals On Wheels Atlanta, http://www.mealsonwheelsatlanta.org. Arrangements entrusted to Gregory B. Levett & Sons, Funeral Home, 4347 Flat Shoals Pkwy, Decatur, GA., 30034. 404-241-5656. Please, visit our website to extend condolences. www.levettfuneralhome.com
